I recieved the OTA update for the G2x to the latest v21y firmware and Gingerbread 2.3.4 OS. Everything seems to have gone fine, except that now in Google Play apps it gives me the following error when trying to install or update *any* app:
'Error downloading "xxx". There is insufficient space on the device.'
Of course, I have an additional 8 GB micro SD card that is almost totally empty, and the internal phone storage has 3.2 GB available. The phone memory lists 0.94 GB available as well.
I followed the usual advice of clear data / clear cache for both Google Play and Download Manager. I unmounted/mounted both phone and SD cards. I turned off the phone, pulled the battery for a bit, took out the external SD card, put the battery back in, and booted back up. I rebooted a bunch of times. I put the external SD card back in. I cleared off extra crud from phone storage via a file manager, and I cleared caches on all installed apps.
This has never happened before, and directly after the update it has happened 100% of the time I have tried.
Any ideas? Is this happening to anyone else?
yup, I am having the very same problem. Did not realize it until I tried to download an update for an app.
Received the OTA this morning. Did not realize this problem until I tried to download an update for an app.
"Error downloading "Twitter". There is insufficient space on the device."
It doesn't matter which app I try to update....same message every time.
Tried everything short of the factory reset.
I just received the OTA update yesterday. I have not had any problems installing new apps since the update. I have installed from Google Play and from Amazon with no problems. I hope this information helps you.
Yeah, this is the only problem I've encountered so far. I think I'm going to grab data off of the phone (pictures/video) as everything else is synced, and do a factory reset. It's not too hard to put apps and such back on there and set a few settings.
I've been told that a factory reset is probably what T-mobile and/or LG will ask me to do anyway. I'm not ready to flash CWM on there so I can go wipe caches. I also thought that uninstalling the updates to Google Play would help, and get back to whatever is stock with the update, but...that actually removed it entirely. Now I have no way to install apps except manually. =)
Factory reset, here I come.
Let me know if that does the trick. I will have to resort to that as well then.....
You can go to the Google Play page on the Net. It keeps track of everything you've downloaded & installed. You can send programs you've downloaded to your phone this way.
Yeah, i tried that. If you don't have Google Play actually installed, it doesn't work, as there is nothing listening for the incoming install requests.
Plus, "Google Play" is not one of the apps on Google Play. So I can't send itself to the phone to be installed.
A factory reset fixed it. I managed to keep all my user data as well, although I did a good backup beforehand. I'm reinstalling all my apps now, and getting things set up. (This is a great time for me to not install a bunch of apps...spring cleaning time!)
Ok, I tried to the master rest as well.
However, this did not work. When go to Menu - Settings - Privacy - factory reset and click it and erase all data, nothing happens at all. It says all data deleted, but all my Apps and everything is still there. Even after a reboot.
So then I tried to do a Hard reset by holding down the volume key when booting up. This will not lead me to a menu where I can choose to reset the phone. Instead, a screen that says "S/W Upgrade Please wait while upgrading..."
And this is where the screen gets stuck.....
Now u make me worry about updating when is coming.
It seems everyone else is not having any problems though.
Now I have noticed this: Nothing erases! When I unmount SD anf format it, nothing happens. It says it does, but all my data is still there. No matter how many times I do it.
Same story for the internal memory. I unmount it, format it and......all data is still there...
I can't delete anything, I thing that's my the factory reset won't work either....
Ok, problem solved.
I apparently let go of the Power button too early, so I took me into the wrong menu.
You have to keep BOTH buttons (Power key and volume down key) pressed until the little Androind with the box and arrow appears. Then let go.
This completely hard reset my phone and now everything works again.
I also had this problem, I could not install any apps in Google Play after the 2.3.4 OTA update. Browser downloads & Amazon app store still worked, but not Play. Consequently I did a hard reset and that worked for me.
Followed kal90's method, holding power & volume down until the Android, box and arrow appeared.
After the hard reset, everything works great. The phone feels substantially snappier... I hope the reboot/lock problem is better too.
I was struggling with this problem on my wife's G2x after the OTA update. Ultimately these were the steps needed to correct the market download problem:
Step 1: Sync Data and Back-up everything you need that is on the phone's memory
Step 2: Settings->Applications->Manage Apps
Step 3: Select Playstore/Market App and clear data
Step 4: Select Download Manager App and clear data
Step 5: Turn off phone
Step 6: Hold Volume Down Button and Power Button (KEEP THEM PRESSED DOWN)
Step 7: Release the buttons only after the image of the white box/yellow arrow/green android disappears
Step 8: Initiate phone as if it was the first time in use
Step 9: Test download from market (market should update to playstore during first download session)
Post your results please... good luck
yea ota update screwed mine up to g2x...so i did hard reset all is good now...phone actually works better now i must say
