There are two USB issues which have not been corrected by the latest update ( 18.104.22.168.376_3002-gdf2ee45):
These are definitely issues that we'd like to see fixed, but we will need for you to contact Asus directly for the most effective troubleshooting. You can call them at 1-812-282-2787.
Apparently there's a USB 3.0 control hidden away in the 2.4 GHz WiFi advanced settings menu. I have changed the setting but I have not had time to test it.
The solution given by xodice in this thread seems to have fixed my problem.
I just now successfully wrote a 1.2 GB file to the samba shared drive on the router. I have not yet tested a USB 3.0 cable.
I've just tested a USB 3.0 drive on the router and it seems to work fine. So, it seems that the USB setting hidden among the WiFi settings is what was causing the problem all along. I now have a 4 TB media & file server running on my LAN.
Strange behavior today. It looks like the router will now either: 1) pass packets to and from the Internet or 2) act as a DLNA server, but not both. When I get the DLNA server to work, I can ping Google from the router but not from the PC and when the router claims there's no USB 3.0 drive, then I have network access.
