This is the first dual-band router I've really messed with. What are the advantages and disadvantages of giving the same or different names to the SSIDs for 2.4 & 5 GHz. What's the "best practice", SOP, etc?
I, too, would like some of this info. But, for the same yet different reasons.
I have a Linksys router with the same feature of two different wireless GHz networks. I have them set to the same SSID, password, security mode, etc. I don't see any issues with it, but I don't know.
My friend Google just made me come across this: Does it make sense to keep different SSIDs for 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless networks? - Super User
That says that devices don't know the difference between the two, and randomly pick one. You could get on the faster or you could get on the slower. So, they suggest naming them differently.
Looks like when I get home I'm going to be changing my network names...
