The Iphone was bought in a TMobile Store at full price. When I came to Argentina, I tried to use it with my local carrier and it didnt work.
I call TMobile, and after a small payment, they told me I could applied for the unlock.
but 1) My phone can not connect with Itunes, because it need a valid SIM to go through configuration 2) The phone was not 40 days in the US.
I still did not get the mail.
Ideally, the phone will first need to be activated on the T-Mobile network for the unlock to go through. The phone (presuming it is an iPhone 6) is off contract and not unlocked.
It would seem to be that that is the missing piece.
The phone is locked to the T Mobile network. The information about the unlock has to get in there and unless the phone is activated you may not be able to unlock it.
Manisha thanks for the answer.
After an imei check the phone appears to be activated...since i activated here in argentina without problem...
Ok - so is your problem solved?
You said the phone was active - does installing a local SIM card work?
I activated with the tmobile sim card in it. And it works...but as soon as i put my sim card of my local carrier appears "activation required".
Tmobile told me yesterday that the unlock request was ok. Within a few days a will have the email with the activation code.
My question is...you think they will send it to me although I did not stay in US for 40 days???
And if they send it to me...will i be able to activate with my local carrier sim from argentina??
If you got them to unlock it - then once you have the code it should be okay....
I've just recieved the email with no code but some instructions.
I've read several cases that although they recieved the email they did not get to unlock the phone.
I have a question...is the same unlocked and international unlocked??
I believe that the GSM phones have a SIM lock that prevents any other carrier's SIM being able to be used. If the email instructions are not enough to enable you to use the phone then I would call T Mobile back and talk to them about it.
Or if you have a Facebook or Twitter account that is another way to contact them as well
Thanks Manisha, I will try in a few hours to start the procedure. Lets hope it works
NIcolas, first tell all your friends in Argentina that all tmobile iphones are always locked . it doesnt matter what the salesperson tell you. Only Apple sells unlocked iphones.
IPhones do not required an unlock code like other phones. That is why you will not get one. Once you get the email from tmobile saying that the phone is unlocked, you need to connct it to itunes and do a restore. After that your iphkne will be unlocked.
