I just updated my iPhone 6 from iOS 8.0 to 8.0.1, and everything works but the cellular data/voice. The phone powers on, behaves nicely with wifi, and is basically an iPod Touch.
I've tried power cycling, and I've tried a soft reset (holding the power and home buttons until the phone resets itself), but to no avail. Is this a known issue? I'd call support, but I can't, since my phone isn't working.
Exact same issues here: I am unable to get a cellular signal after applying the 8.0.1 update - my iPhone 6 is stuck in the "Searching" for service mode. Also, having problems with the Touch ID fingerprint reader - it is not working at all.
Have restarted the phone too; but, to no avail.
Hopefully this gets fixed today!
This is driving me mad. I need a resolution asap
I would recommend restoring it back if possible.
Apple has pulled the 8.0.1 update since it is causing issues.
My worry is that restoring the phone will wipe it clean and reset it to factory settings (If I understand the restore process correctly – I have never resorted to restoring in the past and do not have first-hand experience and hence could be wrong).
If the phone is reset to factoring settings / wiped clean, then I have to set everything up back again (email, apps, logins, organization of apps on the screens, etc.) from scratch. Definitely do not want to do this again.
Note that I do not use iTunes and do updates OTA.
Hope this gets fixed cleanly, and quickly.
Quick update: My Issue is fixed. Details below.
I chatted with Apple support and they essentially told me to

The whole process (took about an Hour) restored all my data, apps, email accounts, etc. the only things I had to setup again was Touch ID. Phone Network and Touch ID working now! Hopefully it stays that way - without any issues due to the restore process.
YMMV – please use the above procedure and the details in the apple support links at your own risk.
Best to chat with apple support – online or instore – for your own device restore.

Actually managed to download iOS 8 and force an "update" back to 8.0, as per the procedure outlined at macrumors.com

Hi herzian and menonkrish!
We apologize to hear that the recent update caused your phones to be stuck on "Searching". It sounds like, based on your updates, that the reset solved this. If not, please let us know so that we can get this resolved as soon as possible!
