I just found out that MMS does not work as long as WiFi is running! I called Tmo support because our account need to be fixed when we first started our family plan and I just upgraded to the Note3 so I suspected there was a problem again. However, it turned out that I needed to physically turn WiFi off to make LTE/4G takeover and send the MMS.
This worked seamlessly on my SGS3; I'd push send on an MMS and 4G would pop up and start sending the MMS. As soon as it was finished, 4G turned off and WiFi took over again. This should be fixed on the next update, Tmo/Samsung.
check this wifi setting. pull notification bar, long press wifi, hit menu, advanced, make sure auto switch network is checked. let me know if that worked.
Well, it sounded like a great idea, just didn't work.
hi sweetpeach, MMS over wi-fi requires wifi aclling to be turned on..
also wifi calling has to be activated by turning it on on your phone and calling tmobile customer care/technical care to set up your E911 address.
Are you currently using MMS over wifi on a Note 3? It didn't work for me. AND it started the 1min 26 sec phone call drop problem until I factory reset!
MMS does not work over wifi for me either.
And I can not disable wifi calling. Even when the setting shows off, it still does it when connected to wifi.
if you turn on wifi calling to be able to send MMS, your phone will be provisioned with wifi network only. So there will be no cellular networks. Dropped calls may really happen because again, your phone relies on the wifi network while it is connected to it. You can actually use your regular data plan for sending MMS. Master reset won't really be necessary.
maybe your phone's connection preference is set to "wifi prefered" . You can set it to "cellular prefered" by going to the wificalling settings > connection preferences > cellular prefered
so that your phone will not autoconnect to wifi calling anymore
My phone's connection preference is set to CELLULAR PREFERRED.
The problem is the word PREFERRED. It should be ONLY.
This idiotic functionality is unacceptable in such an expensive phone.
OK I figured it all out! Go into your router and block the following ports:
This will prevent WIFI calling from happening so you can just have DATA over WIFI.
I tested MMS with the above ports blocked and it works like a champ. It sends MMS over the wifi, calls and sms texts are through the cellular network.
It also solves my problem. HAH.
Yes. I strongly agree. However, that's how the manufacturer designed it.
Will blocking those ports block Skype for other devices using the router? What else will stop working if I block those ports on my router?
No. Skype will not be blocked.
I just turned on WIFI calling, the little blue phone lit up and phone said WIFI calling was on. I sent MMS and it went thru no issues at all
Check you don't start dropping calls after 1min. 26sec. There's a thread on the problem in this forum.
