My mom just got a lumia 521 from t-mobile last week. And she wants to know how to unlock the lumia 521. Please help !
( she paid for half the price of the phone )
Here are the SIM unlock requirements and instructions.
Unlock your mobile wireless device
Exceptions are made if you are going overseas
I met all those terms and conditions, but t-mobile still refused to unlock the 521 I bought at the microsoft store in a t-mobile box. Seems to be an arbitrary and capricious system.
What reason did they give for not unlocking it in the email you got back?
The usual problems I have heard are that not having had the service already for 40 days or 60 days on prepaid with 50$ paid in and the other being that the phone you want to unlock has to be used for 7 days on the network before they will unlock it.
email ? t-mobile didn't bother with that. I waited two weeks and called
back and was told that because I bought my phone from the Microsoft Store
(in a t-mobile box), that I would have to contact Nokia to have it
unlocked. That, of course, was misinformation -- I called Nokia and was
told they can't unlock t-mobile branded phones.
I knew all that. I had previously added $51 with this phone, I've been a
t-mobile customer for 5 years, I've had the phone on their network for a
month. I definitely met the terms and conditions.
If you didn't get a email back then I think the rep you talked with probably never filed it.
Even if it is rejected (I had a few because of the 7 days issue) you would get a email back from the unlock team since it is automated even if rejected something comes back.
I would recommend calling again and ask them to file a request since you met the requirements which they can verify and ask for a confirmation code.
There is usually a confirmation or a form number they get when it is filed properly.
And when you call instead of saying like unlock phone to the automated system tell it you need troubleshooting so you get a tech instead of a customer care rep. They will understand this kind of situation better I think.
Actually, I did contact them again. And I did have a confirmation number
from the first contact. And they really did say it had been rejected
because I bought the phone from Microsoft instead of t-mobile.
That is ridiculous call again and ask for cancellation
Especially since t-mobile lists the Microsoft store on their site as a T-mobile Retail location. Evidently
"You have purchased your device from T-Mobile or an authorized T-Mobile dealer and activated it on T-Mobile service;"
doesn't apply to the retail locations listed on the t-mobile web site.
So now they won't file it again?
I don't think the cancellation department would have any different way of getting the code since would be submitted thru the same automated system.
But I would still try tech support again and if the rep won't file it talk to their supervisor.
They should have no problem at least submitting the request form especially being that was a approved seller.
I just had a similar situation when trying to get the unlock code for a T-Mobile Nokia Lumia 521 bought from the Microsoft Store. T-Mobile did not refuse the code, in fact they agreed to request that from Nokia for me. But later they sent me an email saying that the IMEI was not for a T-Mobile phone so they were unable to request the code. Seems some breakdown whereby the serial numbers of T-Mobile phones sold via Microsoft never make it into the T-Mobile database. I requested and received return and refund authorization from Microsoft for this wretched unsupported orphan phone.
