I've got 3 Lumia 822's from Verizon on T-Mobile all having the same issue with not being able to send SMS messages. They can receive SMS just fine as well as send/receive calls too but for some reason SMS messages won't send and it gives the generic error of "SMS error: 1" All of these phones worked the same day on Verizon before switching over and a Verizon iPhone 5 and an AT&T Titan WP7 on the same new account don't have this issue. What's the deal here? The 822 is global ready just like the iPhone 5 and Titan so what's the cause?
The Lumia 822 is almost identical to T-Mobile's Lumia 810 except more storage space and it has Verizon's CDMA and LTE frequencies instead of T-Mobile's 1700 MHz band. Being stuck on EDGE until the HSPA+ re-farming on the 1900 MHz spectrum isn't the concern here, just simply getting SMS messages to send!
This is a real deal-breaker being brand new T-Mobile customers so not looking good if the family can't send texts on 3 out of the 5 lines...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I reached out to Nokia for their assistance on this question. it seems that you need a service center number added to send sms. From what I can tell there is no way to enter that information manually on the device. I used the 810 and you can not either. This may be a limitation of the device not the carrier. Awaiting response from Nokia,
This is the response we got back from Nokia.
On the 810, you can go to Settings à swipe left à messaging to change the service center #
The 822, does not have the above option. It may be the case that Verizon disabled that and “defaulted” the service center # instead of reading it from the SIM card.
Now, even though 822 is unlocked…it can only connect to GSM (2G) T-Mobile bands.
Best option is to use an 810 on T-Mobile’s network
Thank you for your response Andrew. I do have the option to change the SMS center number on the Lumia 822 if that's the same service center #.
It reads the correct T-Mobile SMS center number as +12063130004 from the SIM and I can manually edit it as well.
DO you get a specific error when sending a message?
The phone states that it "Can't send message" and when I hold and view error it states:
We're having trouble sending your message.
SMS error: 1
I have escalated this issue although everything looks great in the network, I just checked the settings and it is perfect. DO you have a T-Mobile device you can put you sim card in and test as well?
No blocks on the account as well. Are you able to send a message your own number?
I don't have a T-Mobile device to test my SIM card in. I can't send a SMS to my own number or any other number.
Does the 810 require some sort of special SIM configuration or profile that has to be loaded? It doesn't make any sense why with the correct SMS center number that it's still not working properly yet calls works fine and I can receive SMS messages.
I'll test the 822 with an AT&T SIM this evening to see if that works to narrow down if it's just the 822 that's causing the issue or if it's the T-Mobile SIM in combination with the 822.
I just tested an AT&T SIM inside the 822 and everything worked properly. I was able to send SMS messages to myself and to others as well as receive them and make and receive calls.
This is starting to look like it's something associated with T-Mobile's SIMs that's causing this incompatibility; but what could it be?
We are also doing some testing as well to see if we can pinpoint the issue! Thanks for testing on your end.
Thanks for looking into this; it's greatly appreciated. Please let me know the results of your testing so I can stay informed.
Make sure you have your sim in your 822
My SIM is in my 822. If there's anything else I need to do just let me know.
We are testing a test 822 from Nokia, waiting to get results
I got your test text message and the following text but I'm still not able to respond. Are you having the same results from your test 822 from Nokia?
