TMobile Moto Z2 Force Pie Support Farce

kidloyola

T-Mobile does not appear to be committed to pressuring Motorola to meet its commitment of timely support and upgrades for Moto’s flag ship Z2 Force.  There is no date specified on T-Mobile‘s page.  There are no responses to inquiries.

Are you saying you think T-Mobile needs to pressure Motorola into releasing an update quicker than Motorola thinks it needs to?

T-Mobile can't pressure any manufacturer like you think they can.  Motorola hasn't even updated their unbranded devices.

Re: TMobile Moto Z2 Force Pie Support Farce

T-Mobile has every obligation to make sure that manufacturers of devices on their network sold by their storefront meet customer commitments and that the devices on the network have the latest security patches & upgrades.  This is not only for the benefit of the customer but also to protect T-Mobile’s own network.

In this particular circumstance there have been no updates since November 2018 for the Moto Z2 Force and no updates to Android Pie since Google released it back on March 7 2018.  This is contrary to Motorola’s own statements for this model off of their own webpage; ‘Motorola is committed to regular and timely security upgrades as recommended by Google/Android. While phones cannot be upgraded indefinitely, we provide security upgrades within the industry standard on both our regular and our Android One devices.’

It’s time that T-Mobile stood up its customers for what was supposed to be a manufacturer’s flagship phone by pressuring Motorola with no future sales of the manufacturers’ devices in its online and brick & mortar storefronts unless it makes good on its customer commitments in a timely & responsible manner.  One year should have been more than adequate time to test and deliver Android Pie for the Moto Z2 Force, yet here we stand going on 1 year and 2 months with not even a public beta that serves as a slap in the face to customer and commitment alike.  T-Mobile, time to put get your game on.

Re: TMobile Moto Z2 Force Pie Support Farce

Your device is more than a year old.  Security updates for most devices come every two to three months and usually are not guaranteed beyond a year from release.  This obviously varies by manufacturer.  OS upgrades are not guaranteed unless stated by the company and referencing that device specifically.  LG has not rolled out Android P to the V40 or V30 as of yet, so Motorola isn't the only manufacturer that is slow to move to Pie, but LG does guaranteed those devices will receive it in late June or July 2019.

Re: TMobile Moto Z2 Force Pie Support Farce

Still T-Mobile is failing to acknowledge its obligations to customers of products it sells.  Let me get this clear, T-Mobile is sitting on the argument that it is in the right because LG isn’t meeting its customer commitments too.

Android Pie Support for the Moto Z2 Force was a major selling point as was Moto Mods.

If T-Mobile bother to do its research at present it would find that Motorola is effectively blaming T-Mobile support for the delay per the below snippet from the manufacturer’s website.

Maybe I have this wrong it that T-Mobile is the root cause of the delay for this update.  Is T-Mobile actively working in this issue or sitting on its laurels?  Please provide an exact reasonable commitment date per the manufacturer’s support verbiage of timely updates.

This device will be upgraded to the Android 9 (Pie) release of Android, pending partner support.’

Re: TMobile Moto Z2 Force Pie Support Farce

T-Mobile has almost nothing to do with device updates outside of a small bit of testing for app compatibility and carrier aggregation.  Those aspects will not delay any updates by a manufacturer.

Re: TMobile Moto Z2 Force Pie Support Farce

At what point in this back and forth has T-Mobile escalated this issue to T-Mobile‘s account manager for Motorola to find the status?

What has T-Mobile done to escalate the issue to upper management given the manufacturer’s verbiage on their support site specifically for the T-Mobile Moto Z2 Force basically indicates T-Mobile is the hold up?

Why hasn’t T-Mobile created a support ticket for this reported issue?

Yeah, the Farce is strong with T-Mobile's support of the Moto Z2 Force.   Now that Motorola published and announced the Pie update for this phone, tmo_mike_c with T-Mobile is backpedaling indicating there will be no update for the Moto Z2 Force sold by T-Mobile now on the support forum.

The link from Moto is a dead link.

This device will remain on Android™ 8.1 Oreo™.

That page reports the above.  Is there any truth to the statement that we'll even get 8.1?  Mine is stuck on 8.0.0.  I'd really like the built-in SMS backup in 8.1, even though it won't come close to making up for getting the rug pulled out from under us at the 11th hour on this Pie upgrade.

Re: TMobile Moto Z2 Force Pie Support Farce

I’ve gone ahead and created a support case with both T-Mobile and Motorola and encourage others to do the same.  Given the issue with Motorola Customer Service that reached class action status, this the reneging of seller & manufacture for providing two years worth of security updates and Android Pie support for the Z2 Force will more than like reach similar status.  It be one thing if Motorola and T-Mobile sought to make the customer whole by providing an option to return the phone for the original purchase price due to an executive decision as to not dedicate the resources to the original business and customer commitments.  In this case, seller and manufacturer don’t want to attempt to come to a reasonable arrangement for its customer.

For resolution should this issue move to class action status and it is found that T-Mobile is the party not willing to spend the time and resources to test the Z2 Force OTA Pie Upgrade despite previous commits from manufacturer and T-Mobile:

FYI, T-Mobile is currently discouraging class actions through T&C's that limit the opt-out of arbitration window to 30 days from activation of a phone as with the parallel class action on privacy data sharing:
