I have no issues as described.
Screen notifications: Go to settings, lock screen, ensure "Notifications" is on. Select it and will give you options on how you want for the notifications to appear at your lock screen.
Samsung messages app:
Go to settings, accounts and backup, select "samsung cloud, select backup this phone.
Or another option is to connect phone to a computer via Smart Switch. Do a back up of your phone.
This will backup all your messages
Then go to settings, apps, select "Messages", storage, select "Clear cache". If that doesn't work, select "Clear data" also.
The last one will erase all your messages. Once done. Go back to samsung cloud, and select messages to restore them back.
This usually fixes the issue described.
I was having the exact same issue. I could send texts to or receive texts from everyone else except for my husband. The response below did take care of the issue and things seem to be working properly now! Not a fan of the new update, other than the fact that I can now have my custom text notification sounds back, at least by thread, not by contact, but I will take it!
I know we've been having some folks report a couple different issues with Pie on the S9 and S9+ devices, but we're here to help! We'll be using this thread as a way to gather this info to report to our internal folks. This thread is here to discuss troubleshooting steps, solutions, as well keep folks updated with resolving trouble. We understand software changes like this can impact the phones so share what's going on here so we can work on assisting you. Thanks.
Dumping this in here then. Why am I getting a "wi-fi calling preferences updated" message numerous times a day since updating to Pie?
Clearing cache did not help. Further, I now know that when I get this message, if I check Phone>Settings>Wi-Fi Calling it shows that my preference for Wi-Fi has switched to Cellular. It does not appear to switch back automatically. This all happens while sitting with 10 feet of my AP.
tmobile-admin Any idea why Pie switches Wi-Fi Calling preference to Cellular, but won't switch back to Wi-Fi?
A lot of people rely on Wi-Fi calling and this behavior seriously undermines trust in the functionality. If you are overseas for example and it arbitrarily switches to prefer cellular, there will be additional charges. Having to manually switch back is also not acceptable.
You're right. I've heard some folks mention this is happening. Give these things a try. First, try to wipe the cache on your phone and test it out after a reboot. Some other folks have noticed resetting the Network Settings on the device helps as well.
Hi Mike. I had done the cache wiping thing previously and that definitely didn't help, however since doing the Network reset yesterday afternoon, it seems to be stable. I'll report back if that changes.
OK spooky. Within 5 minutes of submitting this comment it based on various threads I've seen on this topic, this is somehow related to how carrier settings interact with Pie.
Interesting. Did the Network reset fix it or did the issue come back?
My previous edit got FUBAR'd.
Cleared cache - no effect at all.
Cleared network - appeared stable for around 24 hours, however issue returned shortly after editing previous post. Experiencing notifications and change to "Cellular Preferred" multiple times daily with no discernible pattern, e.g. distance to AP, attaching to different wi-fi, time of day, strength of cellular signal, etc.
Looking at various threads across multiple manufacturers/carriers, it seems this is related to how carrier settings interact with Pie.
If this is the official thread I'll reply here.
WiFi Calling Failures and Inability to send SMS while wifi connected
SMS messages are reportedly chopped up and backwards when received by others (usually iPhone other carrier tested)
Multiple notification of wfi calling optimization
Steps taken :
Changed Unicode Default (didn't work)
Cleared SMS cache (didn't work)
Reset Network Settings (didn't work)
Please get this fixed or provide a rollback option (yeah that won't happen I know)
Totally bummed you're still having issues after all those great steps taken, but we appreciate the feedback. Can you flip the phone over to Safe mode and test out the features to see if they work? Also, we do have an Official Android 9.0 Pie Discussion Thread where we're chatting about the update, giving feedback, and helping with any issues you may have. Please join the conversation there if you still need help or just want to talk about the update. Thank you!
