I'm currently a legacy (10 yrs) pay as go acct, xxx-xxx-xxxx but at 82 yrs old cannot justify data svc fee so I can go to a smart phone. Recently heard from the VA that T-Mobile expanding their network with the VA. My query is there any way I can get data svc on my pay-as-you-go plan or alternatively a more economical plan for low demand users like myself? Thanx  F.G.Clayton

First, thank you for your service. I am on the Pay As You Go $3 a month plan, but data and messaging is shut off on my account. I suggest from your phone dial 611 (Customer Service) and explain to the rep what you want to do. Do you live by a T-Mobile store? I hope you don't get talked into something else. Just stick to your guns. If you have any other questions I will try to help. My knowledge is limited to the Pay As You Go.

          Re: Expand my service

T-Mobile has oriented themselves toward the young network-centric consumer. These people care more about their data connection than about making phone calls. T-Mobile appeals to them by making all plans unlimited data. Actually, just about unlimited everything and including the taxes and fees in the price. T-Mobile isn't worrying too much about the person who doesn't use data and only makes a few calls.

My suggestion for you is to look at either Consumer Cellular or PagePlus. Both are MVNOs that have plans catering to seniors and those with limited phone needs.

                      Hey there!

Just wanted to confirm what you meant in your last reply to us. If you mean that your usage is about 20 minutes a month and $75 a year, I don't see an available plan at this time that would provide you with minimal data use within a reasonable budget.

                          Re: Expand my service

That's right; with such low usage I can't justify paying $40-50 per mo

for commercial data service. Looking for some alternative mid-priced

'tween commercial & pay-as-y0u-go for the limited user. Basically for my

VA medical care so when I saw that T-Mobile itegrating with VA, I

thought it might be an opportunity. Such a plan would get T-Mobile a lot

of new accounts from veterans.  Thanx for your input.

I think the $3 pay as you go play will work the best for you. Its $3 a month and you get 30 units of usage per month. That is either incoming/outgoing calls/texts. At $3 a month, that would only be $36 a year

                                Re: Expand my service

The VA changes the mobile phone contract for their official-use phones every few years. They were with Nextel and transitioned to Sprint. At the last contract they went with Verizon. Now they're going to T-Mobile. This has nothing whatever to do with VA clients/patients. I expect to see T-Mobile come under some pressure from the VA to improve their coverage. As you are probably aware, there are VA clinics in some pretty out-of-the-way places. I've visited some VA clinics where there was no T-Mobile service.
