Re: Can't Connect to USA-Commnet in Blue Mesa Lake in Colorado, Nor in Salida

Well, actually, T-Mobile doesn't say who their roaming partner is in any given location. However, they do show roaming availability around Blue Mesa Reservoir. There are two possible reasons why you couldn't roam: 1) T-Mobile hasn't updated their maps to show the current situation or 2) Commnet provided T-Mobile with an inaccurate LAC boundary map. T-Mobile uses their partner's LACs to control where customers are allowed to roam.

So we do have coverage in Blue Mesa Lake but it is pretty light as the coverage is coming from the tower in Gunnison. What kind of phone are you using?

I'm using an iPhone x. I, Cellmapper.net, and OpenSignal.com can all confirm there is legitimately no TMO coverage in Blue Mesa.

Well, CellMapper does show a few spots of coverage but it's not a lot.

Yes, exactly. But it obviously shows Commnet has 3G coverage there. I spoke to a tmo guy yesterday, who gave me a support ticket and said he will call me on Thursday to see what the engineering team said the issue is. He confirmed that it should be working, but noted that Commnet looks like it is having issues in that area.

It's much more likely that T-Mobile blocked that LAC based on the idea that T-Mobile had service in the general area. Remember, their object is not to provide real service, it's to paint a pretty coverage map. As soon as the coverage map looks pretty enough, they'll LAC-block the roaming partners.

Since we do show that we offer coverage there and you are not able to register, we are going to need to get an engineering support ticket opened. Please call us when you have a moment so our tech care folks can get this opened up for you.

I have already contacted Xavier from TMO and he has one opened. He contacted them and is calling me tomorrow to give me their answers.

Yes. I was actually just on the phone with them. He said they are actively working on coverage in blue Mesa. He said they aren't really working on salida but he said he has reported it so they'll know it isn't great.
