You don't. Samsung blocks downgrading.

Sorry you are not loving the new update! What specifically has you wanting to downgrade? While there is no officially supported way to downgrade, I would love to see if I can help you with any problems you are having with the new update.

The problem is that after the upgrade I can no longer assign distinct tones for each sms/mms contact. Now I get the default tone for all messages. Before, I was able to assign tones and know who was texting me without looking and determine if it was an important contact. Now I have to look at all texts immediately. At least ring tones are still assignable, but most people today communicate through texts not phone calls.

Yes, you can still add ring tones to each contact. My wife' s8+ just updated and I added her favorite ring tone for me and txt. Go to contact edit scroll down to more and choose ring tone select go back and save. Your welcome!!!!!!

I can assign ringtones. That's not the problem. I had different seperate tones for for phone calls and texts for the same contact. That way, I could differentiate between texts and calls from specific individuals without looking. I had the general ringtone and text set for unknown contacts. Seperate tones for contact "texts" were available in Nougat in the same location ringtones are changed but are missing in Oreo.

You can set a custom alert for a text conversation, this is set per conversation and will be the same sound for everyone in a multiple person conversation. Frustrating for group conversations but works well for single person.

You're not alone. I hate the new update. Not only did I lose the individual text tones but now my icons badges no longer show me when I have new notifications. I have it set to show them but it doesn't work. Plus my battery drains so fast even when I'm not using the dang thing. The clock sucks again on the lock screen. I had an theme that changed it to a normal clock but with the update it even took that away. They even changed the emojis and gave us the dumbest stickers for our text.

1 of 1 people found this helpfulHey folks!
The custom SMS tones is a Samsung feature and nothing that we have the power to implement. As tidbits said, the best way to have you feedback head is by reaching out to Samsung. I have seen other using 3rd party SMS apps like textra, or go SMS as a work around for the custom SMS tone issue.
magenta4492771 - I am very sorry to hear that your batter is dying super fast! After large OS updates like this, we recommend that you either reset your phone to factory defaults (backing it up first of course) or trying a system cache wipe so that the phone can have a fresh start with the new update.

WHY??????? Nougat is horrible I'm wishing my note 8 would update to oreo!!! I went back to my IPhone x till Oreo is out for my note 8, buy I don't think you can downgrade, but you can call Samsung support 800 726 7864 maybe tech support might be able to help you on that, but from I've seen an Android once you update your stuck on that, but this may sound crazy you can call t mobile and say your having issues with your s8+ on Oreo and do a warranty swap and than you should be sent a s8+ with nougat, but your lucky even though Oreo not working, wish my note had the update, I messed with the s9 at t mobile the Oreo seemed nice..but good luck

Already downgraded to nougat via Odin.

Yes, I don't like it at all. For some reason while I'm texting I'll type in a word and it changes it to "I". Or when I click on a link it'll keep sending me back to the previous page. I'll have to click on the link 3or 4 times until I get there. The texting is horrible! Changes the word, doesn't leave a space half the time, spells the wrong word completely. I wish I never would've updated. There was nothing wrong with the previous update...

The keyboard changed and I can't find another version. Did you delete keyboard options? Also, all my notifications are switched different from what I had them before. How about allowing us to choose what we want to change before giving us what you think is best?
I'm going to waste time downloading keyboards to get something close to what I had.
I have to go to settings every time I realize I missed a notification, or I have a useless notification distracting me.
I've never been more angry about an update!

I hate the Oreo update... I never received any notifications and when I do I'll open the app like messages and look at one person then it erases all of them . Dumbest update and worthless. I don't use any of the new changes that have been added. My note worked perfectly and now it doesn't after the Oreo update.
