Oh man! That sounds like an ease of access setting. There are a few places in settings that have these kinds of options. The first place I would check would be under accessibility and turn voice assistant off.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I could not find voice assistant
and I've looked through the settings 100 * for driving mode. Or anything
similar. It is driving me crazy but thanks again.
I'm thinking about resetting but I'm afraid it will mess up my calendar
even though it says that it won't!

If you check your calendar on https://www.google.com/calendar and all your stuff is there, it will come back after a reset as soon as you log in to your Gmail account.

No, I did not do the reset. We had such trouble syncing the calendar that I
use that I'm afraid to do that. Still cannot find an answer to why this
keeps announcing texts and appointments. I feel like I've exhausted that
search but I'm still trying before the last thing for me would be the
reset. Thanks for asking and thanks for the tips. I know I change the
setting on the phone, almost positive it was driving mode. Thanks again.

The calendar I use is Google Day by Day pro...it looks like a day planner.
I MUST have it be working correctly because like most people they depend on
it a lot. I don't use the regular Google calendar because I can't see it
like I can the Day by Day Pro. The other calendars are online fine but
that part is not what I depend on....I have to be able to use it on my cell
and we had a heck of a time getting it synced. Finally we got it to work
and that's why I don't want to reset unless I absolutely have to. When the
calendar synced it synced some events but not all and it was a horrible
mess.
I know the people at the TMobile store are not Google experts but getting
back to the phone announcing texts and calendar events, they have no clue
where the setting is.
So, yes, a long answer here:) It probably is online but that won't help me
as I use the calendar only on my phone.
Thanks for all your time. I sure hope I can figure this out. I will NEVER
change a setting on a phone again!!

Oh wow, yeah, that is quite the predicament. I just checked the play store for a Google Day app and could not find anything I am very sorry I could not be of more help! I truly hope you find this setting and reply here so that others who may have accidentally enabled it can fix it.

Hey, jaeco!
I just wanted to swing by to see if you've already tried changing the settings found here: Text to speech: Samsung Galaxy J3 Prime. I know you mentioned you've tried a good amount of settings but I wasn't sure if you already tried the ones I mentioned. Other than what Chris suggested earlier in the post, that's all I can come up with to get the phone to stop announcing your calls and texts. Let me know if that does the trick!

I just went there. Not sure how that is supposed to be but it is set on
Samsung, not Google.
I have to admit, I'm about done with this. I'm either going to live with
it or try to find a different calendar. Will never change a setting again:)

Wow, you've tried so much to get this resolved and we appreciate you trying all those suggestions. I am curious though, have you found a fix for this or another calendar that'll work? This could be useful for other folks that may have the same issue.

No, I've not found a fix. I looked forever for a calendar when I found the
day to day pro planner, and im really happy with it. I can't risk my
calendars being wrong, so I'm sticking with it. If I do anything at this
point I'll reset.
