Amtrak California Zephyr Coverage

tcano

    Hi,

Will be moving cross country later this year. Does anyone have experience with cell data coverage on Amtrak's California Zephyr from Chicago, IL to Emeryville, CA? Are there any times where data coverage is lost? If so, at what point in the trip?

    Thanks!

Actually, I recently looked at a section of the CZ's route. Someone has mapped it on CellMapper.net.

Open CellMapper.net. Select USA (310), T-Mobile (260) and start in either Chicago or Emeryville and follow the tracks.

There are places along the route that even AT&T and Verizon have dead zones. I understand that the CZ does not have WiFi service.

You might also want to look at this thread on the AmatrakTrains.com forum.

The answer is yes there will be holes in coverage, and the amount of times you will lose service will depend heavily on the device being used. If it is a phone that supports the whole network i.e band 12 than it should not be to horrible of a experience.
