Thank you for the replies. I downloaded Smart Switch for PC and backed up my phone to my laptop. The only problem with that and the other solutions offered, is that there is no way to read the file, only to restore it.
I'm looking for a backup solution that gives the option to read old texts after deleting them. SMS Backup & Restore did that and still does, but not for advanced messaging. I have thousands of texts I'd really like to clean up but not until that option is available.
Thanks!

Hmm, I'm not seeing that's an option with this software. I'm sorry, other than what's already been mentioned by the others here, I don't have another recommendation. Have you already tried reaching out to Samsung to see if they have another suggestion?

Hey there! Just wanted to chime in here and say that these are the only options I've heard about, too. Like Mike mentioned, Samsung might be the best point of contact for alternate options here -- if you decide to reach out to them, we'd definitely love to know what they recommend!

1 of 1 people found this helpfulSamsung can only advise to use smart switch. I did find an app in the Play Store that backs up RCS to several different readable formats. It costs $4.00, a very small price to pay if you want something you can refer to in the future. It's called SMS Share 2. You can download it for free and test it with up to four messages to see if it works for you. The test worked, so I purchased the app, but haven't had time to backup all the messages yet. I'll let everyone know asap.

Very cool. I appreciate you sharing and may have to look into such a app myself. Its very rare if ever that I had the opportunity to use Advanced SMS or RCS. How are you even able to tell when you are using the feature?

If your profile's up to date, dragon1562, you can find steps to check here: Advanced messaging: Samsung Galaxy S8!
bananarama, thanks for letting us know -- that sounds like it might be just the thing! While we (TMO) can't technically endorse third party apps our engineering team hasn't worked with, it's still awesome for our Community's sake to have this kind of feedback and recommendation for a situation where there's not an easy native solution. Let us know how it goes!

I backed up my messages with an app from the Play Store that I had been
using for several years. When I checked it, only the incoming messages
were backed up, everything I sent, wasn't. Research told me it was due
to advanced messaging.
