Re: Account security with PUK and/or PIN and what's the difference

1 of 1 people found this helpfulThis is a great question and we thanks for coming here to ask. SIM PIN is code you use to access the phone and helps protect it. If you forget your SIM PIN, then the phone will be PUK locked. The only way to get your PUK code, is to Contact Us and we'll give it to you. So essentially, the SIM PIN is your initial card's code, and if that get's locked, the PUK code acts as secondary fail safe. I do hope that clears up the confusion. If you need more help, don't be afraid to ask. We're here to help!

1 of 1 people found this helpfulBut neither the SIM PIN or PUK have anything to do with the phone porting scam. This is a separate PIN you set up with customer service to prevent someone from porting your line out to another carrier. This would allow them to receive things like any bank or social media confirmation codes you receive by text. With a porting PIN set, they can't just claim to be you and port your service to another carrier.

Howdy, startedwithasmile! I just wanted to check in here and make sure you'd had an opportunity to reach out to our Care or T-Force (account support through Twitter or FB) teams to get port validation added to your account and establish a 6-15 digit PIN. You can find out more about the process here -- New Year, New Account Security Option -- but drnewcomb2 is spot on, we'll need to work with you either over the phone or through one of the social media channels above to get this set up! Have you already been able to contact us to arrange it? How did it go?
