Change from Multiple Numbers, One Device to Multiple Device, One Number

mosi76

    Hi Digits Team,

I was wondering if it is possible to change from Multiple Numbers, One Device to Multiple Devices, One number?

I carry multiple devices and have added a couple lines in the last few months and I believe I would really benefit from consolidating the different numbers into one single number. When I initially started the beta, I had two lines but only one phone.

Is this request something T-Force can help with or do I need to call a Digits specialist?

    Thanks for your assistance

So after speaking to the Digits Beta Team I guess what I really wanted (and still do) is duplicate SIMs. One Primary SIM for my iPhone 7 and then a duplicate SIM for my Samsung Galaxy S8 and another duplicate SIM for my Nexus 5x.

The representative I spoke to said I would have to wait until the 31st but that there would be a way for Beta users to request duplicate SIMs.

So a couple of questions about this from today's press release:

As a special thank you, T-Mobile is giving every one of the tens of thousands of customers who participated in the DIGITS beta program their extra DIGITS lines for as long as they’re with T-Mobile.
Data on the devices you share your number with will have max data speed of 512kbps. Limited time offers; subject to change. Without T-Mobile ONE Plus, free DIGITS Talk & Text line may increase up to $10/mo. (w/ AutoPay) after 30 days unless you call 611 to cancel.  Up to 5 numbers per device & up to 5 devices per number. DIGITS supports 911 but calls & texts to 911 work best from your landline or primary cell phone/number & without using Wi-Fi; always provide your actual location & callback number to 911 operator; callback may be answered by others sharing your DIGITS line. See DIGITS Terms of Use for additional 911 information.

If I have 3 lines each with 6GB data and I want to use a Duplicate SIM, will my data on the duplicated lines (which I have a LTE data plan for) be throttled to 512kbs? Also I am in the Beta with a Simple Choice plan and 4 lines so does this mean that I will be getting charged for my free DIGITS lines that I am getting for being a beta tester unless I move to a T-Mobile ONE Plus plan?

Hey, mosi76! Thanks for coming back to clarify your original question!  Our dedicated DIGITS team over the phone is correct about the timeline. On 5/31 Beta testers should start receiving e-mails with instructions for opting into your free lines. To be honest, since we don't have account access in this forum and this process isn't underway yet, I'm not certain that switching DIGITS scenarios is an option, but I'd trust the information you received! I can definitely confirm that the DIGITS Beta user offer is different than the limited time offer being extended to T-Mobile ONE Plus customers, so continuing your existing DIGITS lines for free as a (soon to be former) Beta participant doesn't mean you'll need to add One Plus. It is important that you keep these beta lines and have them migrated over in order to qualify, though.

Your last question is a good one, and I'm sorry to say that I'm not sure of the answer. I'm going to take it back and will update you ASAP with more details regarding the data speed.

              - Marissa

Thanks for the response. Yeah I would really like to get an answer about data speeds using duplicate SIMs for lines that already have high speed data on them. I would love to have one native number across each of the phones that I have.

See my last post in the link : Re: Will DIGITS eventually work with prepaid accounts?

I am yet to receive an update / suggestions from evanmf . I dont see why DIGITS with Paired Data (soon to be successor) will have 512 kbps data  unlike Duplicates (soon to be former) where we had full speed data?

                      • tmo_marissa

OK, all -- I took a look at the other thread that debjitjdv was kind enough to link to above, and it looks like tmo_evan has already provided an answer regarding data differences between the Beta and post-launch DIGITS (and since he was who I'd have turned to after sourcing my colleagues, I think it's best to leave him to speak for it). I know it doesn't provide a "why", and I can only guess at reasons -- which is probably a disservice to us all.

mosi76 - regarding the specific user scenario you're outlining, can I ask a little more about the situation? Why were you in need of duplicate SIMs rather than relying on the DIGITS app? I can totally appreciate that if you're paying for data on a line, you'd like to use that data at its full speed potential, rather than have the line share your primary's data at a slower speed... are the other devices not capable of using the app to simply get the Primary's talk and text, and retain and use their own data plans? What type of devices are you using on lines 2 and 3?

                          • mosi76

@tmo_marissa Thanks for getting back to me. I have an iPhone 7, Galaxy S8 and Nexus 5x. Each line has a 6GB data bucket. I would like to have the same physical number on each phone for talk and especially text while retaining their individual data buckets. Each phone could use the digits app but I would much prefer to use each phones native apps especially on the S8 since it has native multi-line settings available. If I was to use a duplicate SIM in the S8 and 5x, it would accomplish my goal of the same number but at least from what I have read, it would be throttled down to 512kbps unless I paid for the full speed option which is apparently coming. But if I had to pay for the high speed option, I would be paying for data twice since each line already has data.

I completely understand capping the data at 512kbps for non activated T-mobile devices or other devices that are just looking to use 'free data' but in my case, I am already paying for the data. I just want the ability to use one number. I hope I was clear

Got it! So in your situation, it would be more worthwhile to simply not have individual lines for these other devices at all, as you don't want to use their own individual numbers, correct? Essentially, each time you'd place a duplicate SIM in the phone, it would use the native apps but would no longer get the calls and messages for its assigned line... so in that sense, it would really be beneficial for you if DIGITS offered the opportunity for duplicate SIMs (forgive me that I keep using this term even though when DIGITS launches tomorrow we'll no longer be referring to this scenario using that language) but paid data. Then you would only have to pay for the data once. Does that make sense?

I don't want to imply that this scenario exists or is even coming down the pipe; that's not something I'm in a place to know -- but I would love to understand more about your needs so that I can forward this feedback. If you'd have no use for the individual numbers assigned to lines 2 and 3 when you're purchasing data plans for them on your account, then I think that's a user scenario certainly worth passing on to be explored!

So basically u want one number across multiple devices and shared high-speed data across all those devices. Am I right mosi76 ? A one liner of the usage scenario you are looking for would be really helpful.

tmo_marissa Congratulations on the successful launch of DIGITS. I know you guys have been busy but I am just wondering if you were able to get an answer to my use case. I went to the Promotion site and put in my main number and pin and the promotion code and I was taken to a page that gave me the option to request a duplicate SIM. It was my only option actually. I went ahead and went through it and completed the process with the hope that I will still be able to retain my high speed allowance on my additional lines at some point.

Another question that I have is that I noticed some people say they have been able to get duplicate SIMs provisioned from extra SIMs they already have laying around provisioned by the tech support team. Is that the case?

                          Thanks

Hey, mosi76! Thank you for your kind words about the launch! I provided your feedback but don't have any word about what options will be available in the future for DIGITS; although I am glad to hear that you went ahead and snapped up a duplicate and I am also hopeful that you'll be able to use it the way you want in the future. I'm not sure about the provisioning of existing SIMs -- since we don't have account access in this forum, activations aren't a part of DIGITS that we're completing ourselves so I'm not too certain whether that's an option (my previous understanding, at least from Beta, was that it was not, but that may have changed with the commercial launch). Your best bet to find out would be to reach out to a team with account access who are familiar with the steps to get a DIGITS line set up -- have you had a chance to ask? Where are you seeing the reports of previous SIM provisioning; are there threads here on Support that mention this? There's been quite a flurry of activity since launch and I was actually offline for a long weekend, so I may have missed something here but we'd love to know if this is an option!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to provide some clarification on the expected behaviors pre and post launch.

                              Pre-launch-

Duplicate SIM cards pulled data from the primary lines mobile hotspot bucket if the primary line was on an unlimited data plan. If the primary line was not on an unlimited data plan, the duplicate pulled from the primary lines main data bucket. These speeds were not restricted unless the said buckets were depleted.

                              Post launch -

Duplicate SIM cards (now known as "Data with paired DIGITS" lines) have an unlimited data bucket. The data speeds have been set to the equivalent of 3G speeds. These duplicate lines do not have their own mobile hotspot data bucket.

                              Beta participants-

Beta participants opting in to keep their existing duplicate lines will continue to have the Pre-launch data experience until the window for opting in to keep the line closes. At that point, all the folks that opted to keep their lines will be migrated to a $0 version of the Post Launch Data with paired DIGITS plan which like the Post launch plan, will have a separate unlimited data bucket that is set at 3G speeds.

Hope this clears up at least a few questions
