okayzor

I apologize in advance for my English.

When I flew to Alaska my operator changed from T-Mobile to CGI. According to the GCI coverage map here (in Skagway) should be LTE. But it is only 3G. Am I doing something wrong? Maybe I need to change some settings?

        Hey there!

It may be that your device isn't compatible with their LTE bands. What device are you using? Do you know the bands for their LTE?

          Re: LTE coverage in Skagway

If you look at T-Mobile's coverage map it shows that Skagway is "partner coverage" (i.e. roaming) which is why you see GCI as they are the carrier that most other carriers partner with in AK.  If you drop a pin in Skagway you will see that it is Non-LTE data, so while GCI may offer LTE to their own customers apparently the don't allow other carriers to roam on their LTE network.

According to GCI's website, they have only "4G" (HSPA+) in Skagway.

I suppose when a cruse ship arrives it gets pretty congested.
