Try this (instead of logging in with your phone number):
A. Open the DIGITS app
B. Select the button at the top that says "Sign In with T-Mobile ID"
C. Enter your email address that you use for logging into my.t-mobile.com
D. Enter password
E. Remember if if asks you then for a phone number... enter in the phone number of the actual phone you are getting this message on (e.g. your VZW phone number).
Hopefully that should get you started. Post back if you're still having problems getting online.
