I'm considering getting an older (but new) Nexus 5 for my daughter. We often find ourselves in fringe areas where cell coverage is spotty at best so WiFi calling is a must - especially near her school.
Does anyone know whether the Nexus 5 supports WiFi calling? The last discussion details I saw on this site indicated Google was working with T-mobile and it was "coming soon" (as of March '15). If the Nexus 5 comes with KitKat but if it upgrades to Lollipop, would that provide WiFi calling support?
Thanks very much for all responses.
No it does not. Only Nexus 6 or higher does
Everyone believed the update would make it available for the Nexus 5 but since Google made the payload system Nexus 6 and higher the Nexus 5 would not get the files needed for it to work.
Thanks for a the clarification, tidbits.
Does that mean that the brand new Nexus 5x also does not support T-mobile WiFi calling?
The 5X DOES support WiFi Calling.
It's just not being added to older devices, but new devices it works with.
Yes but not EXACTLY. I am having my share of issues getting WiFi calling to even stay on as a calling option. As a calling option it drops out and stays off unless a reboot is performed
