Can't use as a trade in with a broken screen.
You can upgrade though, just can't use that phone, unless it is properly repaired.

snn555 is right. Do you have JUMP Insurance? If so, you can call Assurant and file a claim. Once you pay your deductible, you'll be able to jump (as long as the device is eligible).

The comments above are spot-on. If you do have insurance, you should file a claim and get that device replaced.
