Service is unavailable

jan_k

This has been happening to me (T-mobile / Samsung Note 8) for about 4 months and only with one person - my husband.  Started out of nowhere.  I can only text him if I use the text message program that came with the phone. I don't use that program.  I have deleted him, etc.... to no avail. Also, mysteriously, the area code will not save to his phone number. THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY. It has nothing to do with updates on my phone.  Any ideas?

Hey I let the t-mobile admin know, so they should be by shortly with a link to change your username. Currently it displays your phone number which is not good since this is a public forum. To get more attention I suggest creating a fresh thread as this has already been resolved for the OP.

Hey, jan_k! I went ahead and updated your username so that it wasn't showing your phone number -- I'm going to send a PM your way to confirm, so if you'd like something other than the username I selected, please take a look in your inbox and reply!

I also went ahead and branched your post to a new thread, since the one you replied on was a year old. Hopefully this will help folks take notice of the issue and offer their advice. Any extra details you can offer here might be helpful!

Just to confirm what we know so far, you're seeing this error message trying to send texts from your Note 8 to your husband (what sort of device is he using?) from a third party messenger app? Which one are you using? You're not seeing the error message when you're using the default messaging program, right?

            Re: Service is unavailable

The messenger app I am using is Mysms which lets me text from my phone and computer and they sync. I get that error message when I send from that app ONLY to my husband from that 3rd party app.  I have used that app for years through different phones and computers (all Samsung phones) with no problem at all. I have completely removed him from all contact lists including any google accts, had him call me, created him as a new contact and then I can successfully send one text. The second one takes the area code off of the contact in the text app and I get the "sorry, this service is unavailable" message. He is on T-mobile also, only using an iphone.

                Re: Service is unavailable

Gotcha! Things can get a little tricky when it comes to third party applications, because we're not trained on non-native functions; but we always like to try to help if we can!
Two thoughts -- first; I checked to see if there were any Note 8 software updates pushed around four months ago to your phone that might have caused the "out of nowhere" issues, and I did notice a Google update which might have impacted how this app plays with your device. That said, I feel like if this were an issue, then the app would be less picky about who it isn't working with -- it seems like it should have stopped working overall; not just with one person!
I took a quick look at the app developer's page to see if there were any clues. According to their Support page, MYSMS should let you send messages to other MYSMS users -- does your husband also have this app? It also lists iPhones as "no longer supported" which might be the real issue here. Was your husband the only person with an iPhone who'd downloaded MYSMS that you were messaging?

                  Re: Service is unavailable

I would try using T-mobile Digits instead of the 3rd party app. I was reading over the reasons you preferred the app and can tell you that Digits will accomplish the same goal of syncing across numerous devices.

                      Re: Service is unavailable

I've never heard of that. So I could text from any device and the log will show it on all of the devices? computers all over and one phone?

thank you for trying to help me.

                          Re: Service is unavailable

Yea, basically the way digits works is, you create a account that your T-mobile number gets linked to. This then allows you to login into numerous devices. If you have ever had Apple products it works like imessage does across a mac and say your tablet. I posted a link incase I did a bad job explaining that should provide all the info you need. Get started with DIGITS that link should help.

Ok I did this Digits thing and you are right - I can now text my husband (yay) and it does look like it will do what I need but it seems to be slow as molasses on the desktop version.  My contacts show up on my mobile digits but on the desktop version, they don't. I don't see a way to fix that. Any ideas? you are super helpful! Thank you for taking the time.

                                  Re: Service is unavailable

Its not a problem at all. As for contacts not displaying on the desktop version of DIGITS I believe it is a known issue that I sadly lack the experience to fix myself. I would just make sure that you backed up a copy of your contacts for DIGITS to access. If you did that then again not sure, maybe file a ticket with T-mobile and see if they can help you out. Sorry about that.

Ok - you have been so helpful.  I also do not seem to be able to put a "signature" on the texts, which is important for my businesss. Just my name & company. Do you know if there's a way to do that? I can't ind anything so maybe not

This is also something I have no experience with. Any time I signed something I went old school and did it manually. I apologize again but I am sure someone on this forum will see the thread and be able to help. I also tried sifting through Google and saw nothing mentioning it.
