1 of 1 people found this helpfulI agree with snn555. You could also try safe mode before backing up the device to see how things work out. If things work as you like in safe mode then you must of changed something, via downloading a app.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. I'm just about certain I didn't change any settings. Perhaps an app.
I'll play around with both of you suggestions and see what works.
Thanks again.

Well, ya'll are right. I restarted in Safe Mode and the problem went away.
So, now the question is figuring out what caused it.
Suggestions?

snn555 is right -- as tedious as it sounds. If Safe Mode fixes the issue, then you can either move backwards from the last app, or do a Master Reset and add apps back manually one by one like setting up a fresh phone (instead of restoring from a backup or letting Google add all of your apps back for you), testing after each one. The first suggestion is definitely easier if you know which apps were installed most recently and/or might have had the most recent settings changes.
Setting the device up fresh, you should still be able to log in with the same Google account so that you have access to anything synced to Google Photos, Drive, and native email support for your GMail -- when the phone prompts you to restore from a backup you can just select no.

Oddly enough, simply booting into safe mode seems to have resolved the problem. Thanks all for your help.

You can't run non-stock apps in Safe Mode. You'll have to reboot into normal operational mode at some point. Safe Mode is only for diagnostics, not daily use.

Yes, I’m aware.
I’m afraid I wasn’t clear.
The problem had disappeared when I booted back into normal mode.
