Hi yenrug! That sounds like an unwelcome change to your phone's daily function, for sure. Which Galaxy are you using, and what software version does your device have? We can definitely take a look and see if there were any recent updates pushed!
Once we know which device you're using we can also locate steps for how you can see what is using most of your battery, which might help pin down what's changed here.

It is a Samsung galaxy S7 - less than 1 year old. I checked for updates. I installed a battery saving app - it has helped but I am not sure why the drastic change in battery life all of a sudden

Were you able to see what specific apps were using the most amount of your battery? You can find this in the setting menu of the phone under the battery section.
