I am having the exact same problem on my LG G4. I am located in Orange County, CA and for the past few weeks, SMS texts have not being going through. I can receive them sometimes, sometimes not, but they are not going out. MMS messages seem to continue to work... most of the time. I have manually updated the APN connections which did not help, and then reset them to default. I have uninstalled my testing app and used the pre-installed app to see if this made a difference. In both apps, when I checked the status of the SMS text, it says "delivered." I tried other texting apps (Chomp has ALWAYS worked and now isn't; same with Mood). I have scoured the boards to find a solution and I have found that across the country people appear to be having significant problems with T-Mobile mobile data connections. This is pretty severe as T-Mobile texting does not work over wi-fi and many people (including myself) have migrating to texting as their main venue for emergency messages. As a result of the above problems, I have missed some pretty critical texts coming in and going out. What is the deal T-Mobile??

Thanks so much for the info and lets see what we can find out!
Does this seem to happen with specific contacts, or does it seem like it will fail with anyone? Are you sending your messages through hangouts, or just the standard default SMS?

Thank you for your response! This seems to be happening to all of my contacts, as more and more people have been informing me that I have missed their messages. All of these have been via standard SMS and both with and without a WiFi connection (I also don't have WiFi calling on)

I am having trouble receiving text messages mainly from iPhone users. I got a new Galaxy 5 (under warranty) after trying several things with the store associates to rectify the problem. This phone was fine for about 2 months and now it has started happening again. I need a phone that receives text messages for my job....this is not acceptable...any ideas???

It would be good to know if you don't receive any messages from these iPhone users, or if you only miss some messages. If you don't receive any messages, then this might be something the iPhone users need to fix on their end (such as configuring their iPhone to send both iMessage and SMS). If you only miss some texts but receive other texts from these iPhone users, I would try the 2 steps I posted here: Does this fix your phone sporadically missing text messages?
BTW, a user just replied on that thread with a Galaxy S5 saying those instructions fixed the issue for her.

Let me restate my previous message (it won't let me edit it):
If you are not getting texts when the sender is iPhone and the receiver is Android, the majority of these cases need to be fixed on the sender's iPhone. The sender needs to change their iPhone's settings to send *both* iMessage and SMS. If they are sending only iMessage, Android phones won't get it. You may still be getting some texts from them, as text messages can be sent in different forms such as MMS messages.
As far as I have tested, my fix helps the issue of "sporadically missing texts" from Android to Android. It may fix a case with Android to iPhone or vice-versa, but I haven't seen a case like that yet. I would love to know if it does fix or does not fix these cases, so please add to the thread if you give it a try: Does this fix your phone sporadically missing text messages?
BTW, a user just replied on that thread with a Galaxy S5 saying those instructions fixed the issue for her (but may not be the same case as yours).

I've had this happen with multiple contacts through standard SMS. Any other text medium works just fine.
If my carrier can't manage standard SMS I'm willing to move somewhere else since this is a basic feature I expect when I pay that monthly bill. I've been a loyal customer but if this lasts much longer I'm gone.
I'm on a Galaxy S5. We recently had a software upgrade. This happened before the upgrade as well, it's just become much more frequent recently.

I reported this problem to T-mobile several weeks ago with no resolution. Emptied cache and all that jazz, and still having issues. All the T-mobile customers that I deal with claim the same thing here in Tampa, FL. Each person has a different type of phone, and it's with all contacts using standard SMS. It's ridiculous to call them and have them tell you that they are unaware of any issues when they clearly are!

I'm still having problems, as well. As I keep saying, I just keep finding out that I'm missing more and more SMS messages from more and more people. The two most important and basic functions that cell phones should have and support are calling and sending SMS messages, but how are people supposed to use their phones if their provider doesn't support one of them?

Sorry for the delay!
Because this is primarily a user forum, we have a baked in timeline for other users to respond, so bumps actually pull it further from staff since it appears users are still talking. Sorry about that! Staff pops in once a thread hasn't had interaction from other users after so long.
Hmm. Does this seem to happen in every area? Have you tried your SIM in an alternate device to see if this continues? Have you tried updating the SIM?

I was having the exact same issues with my Galaxy S5. I got a new SIM card in August (at the suggestion of a T-Mobile employee, after my third time in the store for the same issue), but the same problems occurred, where I was not receiving text messages from friends, and many of my messages were not sending. When I went to T-Mobile last weekend, frustrated with this issue that had been happening since June, they told me that the updates I'd downloaded were not compatible with my old phone. I ended buying a new Galaxy S7, and I wasn't thrilled about having to buy a completely new phone when, the old one (other than texting) was in fine condition. (Since texting primary feature of my phone for me, however, I felt it was necessary to follow her advice and get a new phone...)
Today, I am freaking out because a couple of messages to two different contacts have failed. For example, I texted a friend, "Me too!" When I saw it failed, I resent it. Then I sent a third text asking if she'd gotten that message--the third text failed, so I e-mailed her, explaining my frustration with T-Mobile. She e-mailed me back saying she'd gotten "Me too!" twice (even though on my end, my phone said those messages had failed), but she had not received my third text. Again, a different contact similarly did not receive a message from me. I DID send those over wifi, so could that be part of the problem? Though it doesn't seem that should be a problem? (With my old phone, it didn't matter if I was connected to wifi or not.)
I am especially worried now, as I do not want to be spending several hundred dollars on a new phone, only to encounter the same problem. Hoping someone here will have some advice!

Hey annachicago.
First off, that's rough when you switch phones and something like this creeps up again. Especially if your previous phone was in good condition. Still, we wanna help you with your new phone. You've done quite a bit of troubleshooting already and I appreciate that. I think you might be on to something with Wi-Fi. Can you try it over T-Mobile's network to see if the same thing happens?
I suggest turning off the Wi-Fi calling and testing it out with multiple people to make sure it's working. Please let us know the results.
Thanks!

Starting about six months ago, I started randomly NOT receiving some texts. There was absolutely no pattern at all. I could be on wifi or 4g. So, after talking with the techs at T-Mobile, I did all of the regular stuff, replaced the SIM, did a factory reset, etc. This seems like the advice everyone gets. Ok, then back to T-Mobile two months ago with he same problem. Same thing when going into T-Mobile store. New SIM, factory reset, cache, etc. Now here it is two months later and the phone is starting to have the same problem. Randomly not receiving some texts. My phone was expensive and for it to stop working on one of THE MOST IMPORTANT functions is EXTREMELY frustrating. Someone at T-Mobile must know what the problems is? Two SIM cards, two factory resets, and the problem has returned! PLEASE HELP! This is getting ugly with clients and friends!

I am having the exact same issues with my phone and I am furious. The kicker is that most of the texts I'm not receiving are from fellow TMobile customers! Went into T-Mobile and they told me it could be because 'my phone is old.' Really? After reading all these posts and seeing that none of the solutions offered up by TMobile are working, what are we supposed to do? Texting is a basic function of this very expensive phone. Come on, TMobile!

Thanks rickyd5000. Your link is NOT the fix for the problem described on this post. And your fix means having to have other senders of texts to me to change their phones. That's very unrealistic. My problem has nothing to do with W
IFI, or internal settings, or anything else you suggest.. I've made all the changes you describe (other than tell senders of texts to change their phones). I've had two new sim cards, two factory resets, and one reflash. It has been suggested that I try a third party texting program, but doesn't that seem a bit extreme? You spend hundreds of dollars on a top name phone and texting is inconsistent? Sorry if I sound frustrated. T-Mobile has been almost useless on this issue. They are currently tracking my phone where I gave them specific examples of dates/times when texts did not show up on my phone but showed up on the t-mobile site as delivered.-

First, lets chill and and back up a bit... I do not work for T-Mobile. I was merely trying to help... You're welcome.
Second, if you google around a bit, this is an ongoing issue across all carriers, and there doesn't appear to be any quick fix for it. So since we don't have the time, skill, and resources to identify the root cause of the issue, the next best thing we could do is to try and workaround the problem. That is what my instructions are aimed to do.
Third, I don't think you can say my link does not work, if you can't carry out the instructions. Yes, you may not have control over the sender's phone of the text. I clearly stated this. However, there are others who do have control and having the same problem including myself. Husband and wife, family members, and close friends can text frequently enough to reproduce the issue say once per week or so. You should be able to change the configuration on both phones and see if the "missing texts" problem goes away.
Fourth, the best way to fix the problem is to narrow down the possible causes. If my workaround works for several people on a consistent basis, then we know the problem is with sending "long messages" (those greater than 160 characters) as SMS messages instead of MMS. Then the folks at google, tmobile, etc have a better chance at fixing the root cause of the problem.
Fifth, if you google around a bit, the problem does not appear to be specific to T-Mobile. It appears to be across all carriers. In fact, it seems to be more of an issue with Android phones, and does not appear on Apple iPhones.
- Google search for "Randomly missing texts on android": https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=Randomly+missing+texts+on+android
- Google search for "Randomly missing texts on iphone": https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=randomly%20missing%20texts%20on%20iphone
Sixth, I agree this seems like a basic feature, and should be reliable especially in 2017. But its not, and google will tell you text messaging is notoriously unreliable. Even if you were to switch to iPhone, while you may receive texts reliably, your Android friends may not. So until the root cause is fixed, and everybody updates their phones to get the fix - the best route for critical communication is not to use text messages - use email, whatsapp, or facebook, etc.
Good Luck.

It might be due to Wi-Fi calling. If you are connected to receive and send calls via Wi-Fi, then any SMS or MMS (especially using 3rd party apps) will not be received because you're not connected to the cell towers.
I'm not 100% sure if that is the reason, but you can definitely test it.

I am having this problem on my Galaxy S6 too. It started a few weeks ago. I was using Cricket Wireless as my carrrier. I thought it might be a Cricket problem that I was randomly not receiving texts, so I switched networks to TMobile. The problem still exists! My girlfriend has an Android phone too, but she is on Verizon. She is also experiencing this problem. Needless to say, this is not a problem specific to TMobile, but rather is an Android problem. I am missing texts from both iPhone users AND Android users, so it is not a problem specific to Apple either. I've switched out my SIM (obviously, since I changed networks), cleared my cache, deleted my old texts to free up space, switched messengers, just about everything and I'm still missing texts. Has anyone found a solution yet? I'm considering buying a new phone, but my girlfriend's new phone is having the same problem.

I am also having this issue on my Galaxy S8! It's never happened to me before but I live on the east coast and just recently went on vacation to the west coast. That's when I first started noticing these messaging not coming through. The issue seems to be only on incoming messages as most of my contacts say they have received my messaged. It doesn't seem like it's happening on any particular type of phone or network as I've had both iPhone and galaxy users tell me they've sent replies. I've tried the suggestions in this thread and it's still happening frequently! I've only been having this issue for the past two weeks. I plan to go into the t mobile store but it doesn't look like anything they would do will fix this issue. I'm beyond frustrated!

I'm having same issue.
I had a Note 5 until a month ago and it was happening, thought maybe it was the phone.
Upgraded to a S8+, love the phone, but I'm still not receiving like half of the text messages people are sending me. I've called T-Mobile and gone through the problem-solving stuff and none of it has worked.
It *seems* like it's only coming from iphones, but I'm not sure. They receive my messages, I only receive some of theirs.

Hey chrisutpg are you still having trouble with your messaging? Is this happening with a few specific numbers or do you notice it only happening while you're at a certain area? The most common solution for this is to clear out old messages and making sure you're using the preinstalled messaging application. It'll also help if we know whether or not this is happening with numbers from a specific carrier or not. Testing your SIM in another device is a good step worth trying as well. That'll help us determine if there's something on the phone that needs to be fixed or if there's an issue with your network connection. Please give us a reply back so we can narrow down a fix for you.

I have a Galaxy S5. I have had at least 6 now because they all have issues of some sort, the first problem was reported within two weeks of purchase!
This is the third S5 in a row that is missing text and/or What's APP messages. Recently I had a text exchange with my niece before going to bed and in the morning those messages were GONE but I received a new one! These are short messages. I have changed my SIM card, replaced the phone twice since noticing this issue and the problem has not been resolved. Per my local T-Mobile store I called T-Mobile customer service on Wednesday asking for the customer retention department and was told there is no such thing and they can help "We are a team of experts". After being told I could live with this issue (REALLY?), order yet another Galaxy S5 (WHY?) OR reach into my own pocket and pay for an upgrade to replace a phone which has NEVER worked properly I finally hung up in what can only be described as disgusted frustration.
T-Mobile, is this really what you call "customer service"? You have my phone number. I would appreciate a call from someone, preferably a supervisor, who is able to offer assistance without telling me the problem is mine to resolve or pay for.
Thank you.

My goodness this is just terrible magenta3176341.
We definitely don't want you to have just live with it. Just so I'm clear, are you messages not showing up when people send them to you or are your received messages disappearing randomly? I'd just like to understand exactly what's going on so we can help. We don't have the ability to call you here on support, but if you'd like to speak with someone, you'll wanna use the number on our Contact Us page. You could also reach out to our T-Force team using the social support links on that same page. They another department that can try to help as well.

Well seeing this thread is a major concern. This just started happening to me on a S8+ that is only a few months old. Same EXACT issues randomly I just won't receive texts or they will come days later. How can this not have a solution this thread is over a year old. If there is no solution I'll be forced to switch carriers.

I'm using a Galaxy Note 4 and having the same issues. I get some texts, most maybe, many I don't get. Too often people tell me they don't get my texts. Some are iPhone users, some are not. I've done all of the cache clearing and resets. Is this a T Mobile issue?

I've had the same problem for about 3 weeks. Some texts go through. Some don't. I've had this phone over a year. I checked and deleted all messaging apps, the problem clearly went deeper. Today I remembered there's the TMobile Digits app and it worked. Old messages that didn't come through popped up from the last 5 days. I posted this update online and a friend told me it may be a problem with my SIM. I'm going to swap out the SIM card tomorrow but for others dealing with this problem, Digits works retreving your missing texts. I've also heard my phone goes to dail-tone sometimes but I'm not super concerned about that. lol

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with this too xalexbanx . I think testing the SIM in another phone is a good idea. Can you let us know if it's working better for you after you test it? Thanks!
