1 of 1 people found this helpfulYou should start by going to the main "my T-Mobile.com website and sign in. After doing so in the upper right corner of the main" my account" page you'll see three categories.."profile "," tools", and "log-out".. Click on the" tools" and in that section should be a good starting place. I believe there are some "family" categories there.. Such as family locate, family allowances, etc. If you are unable to find the specific parental controls that you're looking for you can go up to the top of this support page and do a search for parental controls.. I'm sure you'll find it there.
Once the T-force personnel are back online I'm sure one of them will respond to you with more specific info. But I'll bet ya you'll have it found if you follow the two steps that I listed....
Don't worry you'll come across the specific info. Have a great night!!!!

Thanks so much I did find those links but it looks like something I have to
pay extra for. Is that true? Kind of ridiculous. Thanks for your help!

I can't honestly answer that question because I'm not on any family plans or anything like that and my daughter is old enough now that I don't keep tabs on her anymore.. LOL if all else fails call 611 and talk to customer service. I hope you figure it out.

It's 4.99/mo, if I recall. I don't know if any provider provides this type of service for free.

Thanks. This stuff is actually all included on Kajeet. We might have to go
back there. Thanks so much for all of this stuff. You're awesome.

To me, it sounds like it's X price per line with Kajeet. If it's cost that's the thing, a family plan with T-Mobile plus the $5 for Family Allowances may be cheaper than per-line cost with Kajeet with the things included, depending on your usage.

It cost me $24 total for my son's phone per month. That's it with no
contract. The only reason we switched was because he bought the iPhone 5c
and kajeet only supports the 5s. Big mistake I'm now realizing.

Hello sharonlieblein! Being a parent myself, I can definitely understand wanting to access the parental controls. These are an extra feature you would need to add to your account. Our family allowances feature is $4.99/month. You can find more details here: Family Allowances. Please let us know if you have additional questions for us. Thank you!

1 of 1 people found this helpfulWithout family allowances, you can set up a basic "Web Guard" filter online. If you sign into My T-Mobile, click on "Profile", and select the desired line, you can then click on "Family Controls", which shows the following:
Family allowances offers a lot more options, but it has been down for several days.

T-Mobile has no "real" parental controls! Why not? I have 9 lines with them, and have been a customer through many different mergers and name changes. Other carriers offer fantastic parental controls. I want....
1. Ability to turn mobile data off on a schedule and also anytime I want to via a "parental control app" on my phone. Please don't tell me that my child can still access data via the WiFi as I am able to lock it down on schedules already.
2. Ability to locate a phone EVEN if the child installs a gps faker app.
3. Ability to lock the phone entirely (except for 911 and pre-approved numbers) via the "parental control app" on my phone.
4. Ability to set a daily mobile data limit (example.. 2 hours per day).

Good question, but that's essentially the way it is. You can pay for Family Allowances, but is has major limitations (e.g., non-configurable time frames, no ability to control data access).

T-Mobile offers no ability to control data access, other than shutting it off completely. This requires a call to customer care each time you'd like to turn it on or off.
2. Ability to locate a phone EVEN if the child installs a gps faker app.
If you subscribe to Family Where (the first month is free), you can attempt to locate them via cell sites. It is not particularly precise, however (e.g., it might say something like "within 2403 feet of a cell site located at 124 4th Ave.").
3. Ability to lock the phone entirely (except for 911 and pre-approved numbers) via the "parental control app" on my phone.
4. Ability to set a daily mobile data limit (example.. 2 hours per day).T-Mobile offers no such features.

I am not sure if this reply came from an official T Mobile support person
or not.
It seems to just re-state what I already stated.
T-mobile, please incorporate some real parental controls.

This is primarily a customer based forum. There are some Community Managers (T-Mobile employees) on this forum as well, and their usernames begin with "tmo_" (e.g., tmo_Lauren, tmo_MikeC).

e2k isn't "official T-Mobile"
Neither am I.
However, he's basically quoted "Official T-Mobile" in other threads of similar questioning.
There's no doubt that Parental Controls leave a LOT to be desired compared to the competition. I think their "best answer" is an app, but apps can be uninstalled or subverted fairly easily. That's why you also watch your child's phone and provide other consequences if they mess with the app (like they get downgraded to a Feature Phone if they mess with the app -- or have their phone taken away completely). My sister has had great success monitoring her children's texts by taking their phones and comparing it to what's on the bill. If there's discrepancies, they lose a privilege.
There's ALWAYS going to be ways to subvert things. The key is actual parenting and not depending on technology to do the job
All this said, I recently heard of something called "The Circle" via the radio this week -- that helps control things like this. The DJ made it sound like it had some control over mobile data usage, but the way he talked it seemed only WiFi. I don't know if they're planning on making an app that does what you're looking for (since it appears to do what you're looking for definitely on WiFi)

1 of 1 people found this helpfulI have had Verizon cell service for years and my kids have phones. I have the parental control with my account. It allows total control of calling, minutes and DATA. I can set up time schedules which turn off everything but allowed phone numbers. This includes stopping the internet usage. Yes, they can use wifi but I also control it so it can't be used at certain times. I was planning to move my phones to T-mobile but after hearing that their parental control is a joke, I will not be doing that. What a shame. It really shouldn't be a problem for them to provide a decent parental control. I guess they don't think parents should be controlling their kids phone usage. At least that isn't a priority for them. Hmm, who do they think pays the cell phone bills? So if having complete parental control is important to you, I suggest you get a Verizon account. Unfortunately, they don't have unlimited data at this point but I think I can pay more in order to keep control of the phone schedule.
