The specs on the Galaxy light are 4.78 x 2.5 x 0.40 in. More than an inch smaller than the S6 I think. Wi-Fi calling is a must, as I live in the forest outside T-Mobile's poor coverage area and use Internet for my phone. Any suggestions for a more premium phone that isn't much bigger and is from T-Mobile (for the wifi calling)?

That's the light which has the same specs as the S2 and not the S6. :)if you compared their mini versions they had the size difference was pretty neglible.

Hard press to find anything under 5" in terms of dimensions.
Z3 and Z5 Compacts are around 5.4" for example. The Nexus 5X which does have WiFi calling which you buy outright is 5.7" roughly. HTC One M9 is 5.6" I think. In comparison the iPhone 6 is 5.4.

I never said my Galaxy Light was a compact version of the S6 -- no, it's a low-medium end phone and I have it because it's small and it allows wifi calling. Xperia Z5 Compact is not "around 5.4". Its dimensions are: 5.0 x 2.56 x 0.35 in, which is very comparable to the Galaxy Light's 4.78 x 2.5 x 0.40. The Z5C screen is 4.6" though, which is a good deal more than the Galaxy Light's 4.0".
HTC One M9 is too big at 5.69 x 2.74 x 0.38 in. It's pretty much as big as all the others. My wife has the Samsung S5 and that's too big also at 5.59 x 2.85 x 0.32 in. That's not compact.
I dunno -- while I appreciate some of your insights and I thank you for taking the time to share them with me, I'm disappointed to see the whole discussion went full circle to "you actually should want a big phone -- other people are buying even bigger phones." At this rate Americans will be holding TV screens to their ears pretty soon, just like they went stupid with bigger and bigger SUVs until the Hummer came along.

Sorry I don't find that 1/2 in a big deal... With proper ergonomics you will NOT tell the differences. I would understand something like the M9 and where it's 3/4 of an inch would make a big deal.
You have to understand more and more people are using their devices as entertainment devices more than anything else these days. We are not going to have TV's on our ears either. We already have the data to show that isn't happening. Look at the sales of devices 5.7" and bigger. They are terrible. Xperia Z Ultra vs. the C Ultra(C Ultra much better sold better). Galaxy Mega. They are actually starting to make them smaller as the sweet spot seems to be in the 5.5-6.0 range, and won't get bigger than that. We are going that way including overseas. Only place where India sells compacts better, and that may be due to price more than actually it being a compact.
This is where the market it is heading. I am not saying "you actually should want a big phone" It's more like "You put too much stock into 3mms or 1/2 an inch. T-Mobile isn't going to pick up the compact unless you can convince Sony to ensure no one has to pick up millions of units and more like 100K units. It works in Europe because instead of carriers doing the major selling it's 3rd party which work in almost all countries like Carphone Warehouse. I actually like this idea and it would force more competition, but of course we can't go in that direction because people are too stubborn
I want to add... Personally I'd get a Moto G over the Z5C.

Have you thought about porting your number into Google Voice and using it that way? You can use it like wifi calling, but you have a fall back onto the carrier you are using as well? So you can get your Z5C, or insert compact/mini device that is out there that catches your eye.

Wow -- I'm going to look into that Google voice. Thanks! And btw, I would be willing to go a half inch larger than the Galaxy Light's 4.78 x 2.5 x 0.40 in, but that doesn't even seem possible (just looked on Tmobile for any premium phone that's no bigger than 5.25 x 2.75 x 4 in and couldn't find one) -- and larger than 5.25 x 2.75 doesn't fit in places like my pocket and is no longer convenient to me (e.g. isn't compact).

Do you wear super skinny jeans, or wear pants that even conventional wallets can't fit in them? Sorry for asking but my Nexus 5X fits just fine all my pockets, and that's 5.8x2.9 unless I wear tight jeans and even then no compact phone would fit in those pockets as well.
Here's some more info on Google Voice. You use it in conjunction with Hangouts.

Not sure if I do. I am sure, however, that my wife's Galaxy S5 doesn't fit comfortably in my pockets.

That's pretty interesting. I am 5' on the nose(username get it?) and only when wearing tight fitting pants do I have trouble with any phone including small phones unless they are like the iPhone 4S or smaller.
Well anyhow. Just check out voice and see if it'll work for you. You more than likely find how to use it with hangouts on YouTube. I know a few people who used it.

Thanks. I guess pockets and such also depend on what you're doing -- I'm 5'2" and often on my motorcycle, for instance, or hiking about.

You wear leathers? Those pockets on most of them are not conventional. I find often most of them are 1/2-3/4 the size of a regular pocket they should be. I had that problem with my old leathers. New ones not so bad, but the jacket I just go has a nice spot for it. Goes well with my Bluetooth helmet that my wife almost put me in the dog house for buying.
As for hiking. When I go I always use a backpack. Kind of trained and conditioned that way. Always carry water, 2 days rations 2 flares, and some various other things for survival purposes.
