Make a call if you see LTE while on a call then it has VoLTE.
As for Advanced Messaging. Send a Text to a person who has a phone that is capable. Send a picture that is larger than 2MB in size.

The is a toggle:
Go to settings>More>Cellular networks>IMS Settings and VoLTE switch should be there.

tidbitsYes, I have VoLTE on and no advanced messaging. Don't get the "Delivered" or "Read" or "XXX is typing" messages at all in the stock messaging UI on the Priv.
charkatak Thanks! Man that is buried deep, hey?
It appears advance messaging is not capable on the Priv, yet. I'm sure it will come in an update in the future.

I read that advanced messaging is available on some Samsung phones. Who did you try sending a message? I was able to send an MMS to iPhone 6 which was over 2 MB in size, but I think picture was compressed because the size became less than 1 MB

Correct but with more devices coming. Safe to assume devices coming out our devices with a major update may have it included if this is something they are advertising. It happened that way with Wi-Fi calling for example.

Both devices need it. If they both do then when you send a file >1MB and < 10MB it will not compress.

Looks like for now we would need to hunt down who have handsets capable of supporting that.

Currently
Note 5
Note 4(I think haven't tested)
Galaxy Prime
S6/EDGE
With more coming soon. I am assuming with 6.0 updates on the horizon that is when other devices will get it and new devices coming out should start having it or slated to get it on the next update. My speculation is based on how Wi-Fi calling went.

Have you heard of another feature I think similar to "continuity" that will allow user to get notifications on another device. I am trying to find that info...

Note 4 (wife's phone) does have it, came along with a security update. I have the GS6e+ and it has it also.

How to distinguish who has that feature? If you tap on person's name in messages, will you see an indicator of some sort?

When you send them a message, delivered will appear and will change to read once they have read it. If they are typing a response and you have the thread open you will see their name (as you have it stored) "typing"

Sounds similar to iMessage..., but at least in iPhone when you are about to type a message there is a wording "test message or imessage" when you pick a contact from the list.

charkatak It was my girlfriend's Note 5. I had a Note 4 before the Priv and it worked on there so both phones need to have AM.
