Ringtones & notifications: Google Nexus 5 (D820)

    Learn how to set custom ringtones and notifications on the Google Nexus 5 (D820).

     

     

     

     

    Notifications

     

    To change the notification sounds, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap the All appsAll Apps.pngicon.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Scroll to 'Device,' then tap Sound & notification.
    4. Under 'Sound,' tap Default Notification Sound.
    5. Tap to select sound from list:
      • None
      • Ariel
      • Carme
      • Ceres
      • Elara
      • Europa
      • Hangouts message
      • lapetus
      • lo
      • Rhea
      • Salacia
      • Tethys
      • Titan
    6. Tap OK to confirm.

     

     

    Ringtones

     

    To change the ringtone, follow these steps:

     

    Ringtone for all calls

    1. From any Home screen, tap the All appsAll Apps.pngicon.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Scroll to 'DEVICE,' then tap Sound.
    4. Under 'CALL RINGTONE & VIBRATE,' tap Phone ringtone.
    5. Tap to select desired ringtone from list.
    6. Tap OK to confirm.
    7. If desired, tap Also vibrate for calls to turn on/off .

     

    Ringtone for a calls from one contact

    1. From any Home screen, tap the All appsAll Apps.pngicon.
    1. Tap Settings.
    2. Scroll to 'DEVICE,' then tap Sound.
    3. Under 'CALL RINGTONE & VIBRATE,' tap Phone ringtone.
    4. Tap to select desired ringtone from list.
    5. Tap OK to confirm.
    6. If desired, tap Also vibrate for calls to turn on/off .

    Note: You cannot assign a ringtone to contacts stored on the SIM card or Phone (device memory).

    1. From any Home screen, tap the All apps All+Apps.png icon.
    2. Tap Contacts.
    3. Choose desired contact.
    4. Tap the Edit contact icon.
    5. Tap the Menu MENU+icon.png icon
    6. Tap Set ringtone.
    7. Tap to select desired ringtone from list.
    8. Tap OK to confirm.

     

     

    Transfer music or sounds to use

     

    Transfer - PC

    Some devices require you to transfer music, sounds, or other audio files to the device in a certain way for it to be used for ringtones and notifications. To transfer these files, follow these steps:

     

    1. Connect the device to a computer using the USB cable.
    2. From the Home screen, slide down the Notification bar.
    3. Verify the USB connection type is Disk drive. If not, tap it and select Disk drive.
    4. On the computer when the Removable Disk window appears, click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.

      Note: If the Removable Disk window does not appear automatically, check that the USB cable is completely plugged in, or try another USB port.

    5. Click OK.
    6. In the Windows Explorer window that opens, double-click the Media folder.
    7. Double-click one of the following folders:

      Note: If the folder that you want is not there, then right-click in the Media folder. Click New, Folder. Enter the name of the desired folder above. Double-click the folder you just created.

      • Ringtones
      • Alarms
      • Audio/Notifications (Go under the Audio folder and then the Notifications folder)

    8. Copy the music or sound files from your computer to the desired folder.
    9. When you are done copying, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray.
    10. Click Safely Remove Mass Storage Device.
    11. Click OK.
    12. Disconnect the device from the computer.
