Set custom sounds


To change the notification sounds, follow these steps:


  1. On the Home screen, click the Sounds icon.
  2. Perform one of the following actions:
    • To change the active sound profile, click Set Ring Tones/Alerts.
    • To change a custom or preloaded sound profile, click Edit Profiles. Click a profile.
  3. Click the application or item that you want to change.
  4. Change the notification information.
  5. Press the Menu key.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Press the Menu key.
  8. Click Save.




To change the ringtone, follow these steps:


Ringtone for all calls

  1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Scroll to and select the Media icon.
  3. Scroll to and select the Ring Tones icon.
  4. Select All Ring Tones.
  5. Scroll to and select the tone.
  6. Press the Menu key.
  7. Scroll to and select Set as Ring Tone.
  8. Select OK.


Ringtone for calls from one contact

  1. On the Home screen, click the Sounds icon.
  2. Click Set Contact Alerts.
  3. Click Add Contact Alert.
  4. Press the Menu key.
  5. Click Add Name.
  6. Click a contact.
  7. To add additional contacts, repeat steps 3 to 5.
  8. Click the application or item that you want to change.
  9. Change the ring tone or alert information.
  10. Press the Menu key.
  11. Click Save.

Transfer music or sounds to use

Some devices require you to transfer music, sounds, or other audio files to the device in a certain way for it to be used for ringtones and notifications. To transfer these files, follow these steps:


  1. Connect the small end of your USB cable to your device and the large end of the cable to your computer.
  2. At the message, “Do you want to turn on Mass Storage Mode? You might not be able to access some media files in this mode.”, select No.
    • Note: To access files without using BlackBerry Desktop Manager, select Yes to turn on Mass Storage Mode.
  3. On your computer, open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager application.
  4. Click the Media icon.
  5. Under Media Manager, click Launch.
  6. Under My Devices, click your device.
  7. Browse to the folder where you want to save the file.
  8. In the top part of the window, browse to the file that you want to move.
  9. Click Copy Down.
  10. At the Copy Files window, select one of the following methods to copy the files to your device:
    • Convert for Optimal Playback: To automatically convert the files to the optimal format and size for your device.
    • Copy with no Conversion: To copy the files with the existing format and size.
    • Advanced Conversion Options: To select a destination format and size.
  11. Click OK.
