Text to speech

Set up & turn on

To set up and use text to speech, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Voice input & output.
  4. Tap Text-to-speech  settings.
  5. If necessary, tap Install  voice data.
    • Note: If your phone does not have speech synthesizer  data installed, connect to the Google Play Store and let it guide you through  the process of downloading and installing the data.
  6. If necessary, tap Accept.
  7. Tap the speech synthesis app you want to download to your SD  card.
  8. Tap Accept &  download.

 

 

Settings

Text to speech reads messages out loud, allowing you to listen to text or messages instead of reading them. To change text to speech settings, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home  screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Language & keyboard.
  4. Select from the  following options:
    • Select language
    • User dictionary
    • XT9 Text Input
    • Android keyboard


To change XT9  settings

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Language &  keyboard.
  4. Tap XT9 Text Input.
  5. Tap Languages and  settings to select a language.
  6. Tap Preferences to select or clear the following options:
    • Vibrate on keypress
    • Sound on keypress
    • Auto-capitalization
    • Auto-punctuation


To change Android  keyboard settings

  1. From any Home  screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Language & keyboard.
  4. Tap Android keyboard.
  5. Tap to select or  clear the following options:
    • Vibrate on keypress
    • Sound on keypress
    • Popup on keypress
    • Touch to correct words
    • Auto-capitalization
    • Show settings key
    • Voice input
    • Input languages
    • Quick fixes
    • Show suggestions
    • Auto-complete

Open an app

To open apps using voice commands, follow these steps:

Voice dial a contact

To use voice dialing to call a contact, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications applicationsicon.png icon.
  2. Tap Voice Dialer.
  3. Say a command when the Voice Dialer displays the “Listening” prompt.
    • Example: Speak, “Call John Smith.”
  4. Tap OK.
  • Note: If you said a name with  more than one match in Contacts, or if you stored more than one number for the  contact, the phone prompts you to select the number. Confirm your selection.

 

 

Write a text message (SMS) with voice

To write and send a text message (SMS) using voice commands, follow these steps:
