Drivers for computers

To download and install drivers for a Windows computer, follow these steps:

 

With Tethering, your phone can share its mobile data connection with a single computer over a USB cable. With Portable Wi-Fi hotspot, your phone can share its mobile data connection with up to five devices, wirelessly. This works with Windows® 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista®,and with Mac OS X. For more information about this, visitwww.android.com/tether.

 

To use Tethering or Portable Wi-Fi hotspot, your unlimited data plan must include a Smartphone Mobile HotSpotfeature.

 

Important: You must update the software to Android 2.2 (Froyo) to use this feature.

Mobile hotspot via Wi-Fi

Set up mobile hotspot

To set up or configure a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, press the Menu Menu.jpg key.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Wireless & networks.
  4. Touch to select (turn on) the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot check box.

    Your phone starts broadcasting its Wi-Fi network name (SSID) so you can connect to it with up to two computers or other Wi-Fi enabled devices. Your phone’s default SSID is HTC Portable Hotspot.
  5. On your computer or other Wi-Fi enabled device, open the application you use to connect via Wi-Fi and select the SSID of your phone.
  6. Enter the Wi-Fi password and connect. After successful login, your phone’s Internet connection is available to the connected device.

To change Wi-Fi Sharing settings, follow these steps:

  1. From any Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Wireless & networks.
  4. Touch to clear (turn off) the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot check box.
  5. Touch Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings.
  6. Under Router name (SSID), enter a new name for the SSID.
  7. Touch the Security drop-down menu.
  8. Touch one of the following security options:

    None
    WEP (128)
    WPA (TKIP)
    WPA2 (AES)
  9. Touch the Password field.

    Note: The default password is 1234567890.
  10. Enter a new password.
  11. Touch to select (turn on) the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot check box.
    This action turns on the Wi-Fi hotspot and saves the changes you made to the settings.

 

 

Turn on/off mobile hotspot

To turn on or turn off a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, press the Menu Menu.jpg key.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Wireless & networks.
  4. Touch to select (turn on) the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot check box.

Tethering via USB

To share your mobile data connection with a computer over a USB cable, follow these steps:

 

  1. Install the tethering drivers (above) if necessary.
  2. Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable.
  3. On your phone, press the Menu key.
  4. Touch Settings.
  5. Touch Wireless & networks.
  6. Touch USB tethering.Your phone starts sharing its mobile network data connection with your computer via the USB connection.

 

Note: If you are unable to turn on USB tethering, touch and drag the Status bar down. You will see the Tethering icon next to the connection type Disk drive, most likely. In any case, touch the Tethering icon, touch to select the USB tethering option, and then touch Done.
