Internal memory (RAM)

Manage memory

To manage the internal memory, follow these steps:

 

  • If the device is slow, remove the widgets from Home screens (especially ones that update with information orhave animation).
  • If you are using live wallpaper and the device is slow, turn off the live wallpaper.
  • Remove all unused Home screens:
    • Pinch the Home screen.
    • On the grid of Home screens, drag unused screens to the trash.

 

 

Task manager

A task manager can view running apps and close them. To use the task manager, follow these steps:

View free memory

To view the amount of free internal memory, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu Menu_key.png key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap SD card and phone storage.
  4. Under Phone storage, view the Available space.

Manage storage

To manage the internal storage space, follow these steps:

 

  • Check the available internal device storage. It must be over 25 MB for all versions up to Android 3.1 or over 150 MB for Android 4.0+.
    Note: If it is less, the Android system cannot work properly. You must clear more storage and delete more apps using the following tips.
  • Delete unnecessary text messages (SMS) and picture messages (MMS).
  • Transfer pictures and media to a computer, and remove it from the phone memory.
  • Clear the browser cache, cookies, or history.
  • Clear Facebook app cache.
  • Manage applications. See section below.
  • Delete the call logs.

 

 

View free storage space

To view the amount of free internal storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu Menu_key.png key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap SD card and phone storage.
  4. Under Phone storage, view the Available space.

SD card

Format SD card

Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

 

To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. Plug the device into a computer with a USB cable.
  2. From the Notification bar, verify that Disk Drive or Mass Storage mode are selected.

  3. On the computer Start menu, navigate to Computer or My Computer.
  4. Find the Removable disk located under devices with removable storage.

  5. Right-click the removable disk.
  6. Click Format.

  7. Verify the file system is set at FAT32 and Quick Format is selected.

  8. Click Start.
  9. Wait a few minutes for the computer to format the SD card.
    Note: If errors appear during this process, the SD card is likely defective.

 

 

Insert / remove SD card

To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

 

  1. Lift the back cover to remove it.

  2. Slide the memory card into the memory card slot.

  3. Press the back cover onto the phone until it snaps into place.

Open or delete files using a computer

To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu “Menu_key.png” key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Applications.
  4. Tap USB settings.
  5. Tap Mass storage.
  6. Connect the included USB cord to the phone, then to your computer.

    Note: If prompted, tap Connect USB Storage on the device..
  7. On your computer, a Portable Device window appears. Click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.

  8. Click OK.
  9. On the computer, double click the folder in the phone’s drive to access your files.
  10. Right click the file you want to delete and select Delete.
  11. Select Yes.
  12. When you are finished, click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the lower right-hand corner of your computer screen.
  13. Click Safely Remove USB Mass storage Device.

 

 

Open or delete files using the device

To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Applications.
  2. On the first Application panel, tap Files.
  3. Tap Home.
  4. Tap sd.
  5. Scroll to and tap the desired folder.
  6. Tap the Menu “Menu_key.png” key.
  7. Tap Delete.
  8. Tap Select all or tap to select the checkbox next to each file you want to delete.
  9. Tap Delete.

 

 

Set default memory storage

By default, the device stores data on the [SD card or internal storage]. To set the default memory storage to another location, follow these steps:

 

  • All photo captures save to the device memory. To change the default destination for new photos, see How to adjust the camera settings link to Camera settings.
  • All other media files save to the memory card. All applications save to the device memory.

 

 

Transfer files between computer & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu “Menu_key.png” key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Applications.
  4. Tap USB settings.
  5. Tap Mass storage.
  6. Connect the included USB cord to the phone, then to your computer

  7. Slide down the Top menu bar and tap on the USB Connected title.
  8. Select Mount.
  9. On your computer, a Portable Device window appears. Click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.

  10. Click OK.
  11. On the computer, double click the folder in the phone’s drive to access your files.
  12. Drag and drop the file from your computer into the memory card folder.
  13. When you are finished, slide the Top bar down again and tap on Turn off USB Storageand then tap Turn Off.
  14. Click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the lower right-hand corner of your computer screen.
  15. Click Safely Remove USB Mass storage Device.

 

 

Transfer files between internal storage & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the internal storage and SD card, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Applications.
  2. On the first Application panel, tap Files.
  3. Tap DCIM.
  4. Scroll to and tap the desired folder.
  5. Tap the Menu “Menu_key.png” key.
  6. Tap More.
  7. Tap Move.
  8. Tap Select all or tap to select the checkbox next to each file you want to move.
  9. Tap Move.
  10. Scroll to and tap the sd folder.
  11. Select one of the following options:
    • Root folder
      1. Tap Move here.
      2. Verify the file appears in the root folder.
    • Existing folder
      1. Scroll to and tap the desired folder.
      2. Tap Move here.
    • New folder
      1. Tap Create folder.
      2. Enter a name for the new folder in the Folder name field.
      3. Tap OK.
      4. Scroll to and tap the new folder.
      5. Tap Move here.

 

 

View free SD card space

To view the amount of free SD card storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu “Menu_key.png” key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap SD card and phone storage.
  4. Under SD card, view the Available space.
