Mobile hotspot via Wi-Fi

Set up mobile hotspot

To set up or configure a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless and networks.
  4. Tap Tethering and portable hotspot.
  5. Tap Mobile AP settings.
  6. If necessary, tap the Mobile AP check box to select (turn on).
  7. Tap Configure mobile AP.
  8. Enter a new name for the network SSID.
  9. Tap the Security drop-down menu.
  10. Tap WPA2 PSK.
  11. Tap the Password field to open the on-screen keyboard.
  12. Enter your password.

Note: Your password must be at least 8 characters long.

  1. Tap Save.
  2. On your computer, connect to your device (SSID) via Wi-Fi hotspot.

Turn on/off mobile hotspot

To turn on or turn off a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless and networks.
  4. Tap Tethering and portable hotspot.
  5. Tap Mobile AP settings.
  6. Tap the Mobile AP check box to select (turn on).

Your phone is now sharing its mobile network data connection with your computer via the Wi-Fi connection.

 

Your phone starts broadcasting its Wi-Fi network name (SSID) so you can connect to it with up to five other devices. Your phone’s default SSID is AndroidAP.

Tethering via USB

To share your mobile data connection with a computer over a USB cable, follow these steps:

 

  1. Connect a USB cable to the phone, then to a computer.
  2. Press the Home key.
  3. Tap the Menu key.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Tap Wireless and networks.
  6. Tap Tethering and portable hotspot.
  7. Tap the USB tethering check box to select (turn on).
  8. Your phone is now sharing its mobile network data connection with your computer via the USB connection.

 

When finished, disable tethering and then safely disconnect the phone from the computer.
