Set up & turn on

To set up and use text to speech, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Voice input and output.
  4. Tap Text-to-speech settings.
  5. Place a check in Always use my settings.

 

 

Settings

Text to speech reads messages out loud, allowing you to listen to text or messages instead of reading them. To change text to speech settings, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Voice input and output.
  4. Tap Text-to-speech settings.

Voice dial a contact

To use voice dialing to call a contact, follow these steps:

 

 

  1. Press the Home key.
  2. From the main Home screen, tap the Microphone icon.
  3. If necessary, tap Speak now.
  4. Say “call” and then say the contact’s name.
  5. Confirm your selection. If you said a name that has more than one match in Contacts, or if you stored more than one number for the contact, you will be prompted to make the appropriate selection.

 

 

Write a text message (SMS) with voice

To write and send a text message (SMS) using voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Messaging icon.
  2. Tap New message.
  3. Perform one of the following actions:
    • Send to a new or existing contact
      1. In the To field, enter the recipient’s phone number.
    • Send to an existing contact
      1. Tap Recent, Contacts, or Groups.
      2. Tap to select the recipients you want.
      3. Add.
  4. Tap the Microphone icon and speak your message.
  5. When finished, Tap Send.
