Manage memory

To manage the internal memory, follow these steps:

 

You should restart the phone at least once a day:

 

  1. Press and hold the Power key.
  2. Touch Restart (if available) or Power Off.
  3. If necessary, press the Power key to turn the device back on.

 

Reduce memory use

Prevent the memory from being filled as quickly:

  • If the device is slow, remove the widgets from Home screens (especially ones that update with information or have animation).
  • If you are using live wallpaper and the device is slow, turn off the live wallpaper.
  • Remove all unused Home screens:
    • Pinch the Home screen.
    • On the grid of Home screens, drag unused screens to the trash.


Note: These things can both drain your battery faster and make your device run slower, or cause crashes in all apps.

Manage applications

Keep managing any applications that you install to keep the system running properly:

  • If you notice the device having some problems and you installed apps in the past few days, then uninstall all the new apps.
  • Keep your apps updated. Open the Play Store while you have a data connection, and it will check for updates.
  • Read reviews of your apps in the Play Store. Not all apps work well with all phones. Read the customer reviews to see if other people complain about the app not working.
  • Manage or remove apps that run in the background. Background apps use up device resources.
    1. Restart the phone.
    2. In Settings, go to Apps or Application manager, and then Running.
    3. Examine the list of apps running in the background. View applications that are running in memory, and either:

 

 

Task manager

A task manager can view running apps and close them. To use the task manager, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Task Manager.

 

 

View free memory

To view the amount of free internal memory, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, press Menu.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Applications.
  4. Touch Manage Applications.
  5. Touch Running services.
  6. Free internal memory will display at the bottom of the screen.

Manage storage

To manage the internal storage space, follow these steps:

 

Clear storage regularly

Clear the storage at least once a week:

Note: Refer to your user manual for instructions.

 

  • Delete unnecessary text messages (SMS) and picture messages (MMS).
  • Transfer pictures and media to a computer, and remove it from the phone memory.
  • Clear the browser cache, cookies, or history.
  • Clear Facebook app cache.
  • Manage applications. See section below.
  • Delete the call logs.

 

Set the device to manage some memory

Prevent the storage from being filled as quickly:

  • Set the text message limit to delete messages automatically.
    Note: The default is 200 text and 20 picture messages. You may use this setting to start with, and decrease it if you continue to have problems.
  • Change the setting for email synchronization to download only for the past three days.

 

Manage applications

Keep managing any applications that you install to keep the system running properly:

  • If you notice the device having some problems and you installed apps in the past few days, then uninstall all the new apps. Most device problems are actually caused by app errors.
  • View other applications that are using storage or memory:
    1. When in Manage Applications settings, press Menu. Some devices may require you select All first to view all applications.
    2. Touch Sort by size.
    3. For apps that take up a lot of space, clear the application cache and data.
    4. For apps that continue to use a lot of your storage space, uninstall them by touching the app name, then Uninstall.

 

 

 

View free storage space

To view the amount of free internal storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap SD card and phone storage.
  4. Under Internal phone storage, view the Available space.

SD card

Format SD card

Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

 

To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the home screen, press Menu.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap SD Card and Phone Storage
  4. If Format SD card is grayed out, tap Unmount SD card.

  5. Tap Format SD Card.
  6. Accept any warning messages.
  7. Tap Format SD card again.
    Note: If you use a pattern lock or password, you may need to enter it.
  8. Tap Erase everything.
  9. Press the Home key to return to the main screen.

 

Insert / remove SD card

To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

 

  1. Place your fingernail in the notch on the bottom of the phone and pull the back cover off.

  1. Hold the memory card with the golden contacts facing down.
  2. Slide the memory card into the memory card slot until it clicks into place.
  3. Press the back cover onto the phone until it snaps into place.

To remove the memory card, follow these steps;Note: Unmount the memory card before removing it from the phone.

  1. Place your fingernail in the notch on the bottom of the phone and pull the back cover off.
  2. Push the memory card in until it clicks and pops out slightly.
  3. Slide the memory card out of the memory card slot.
  4. Press the back cover onto the phone until it snaps into place.

 

 

Open or delete files using a computer

To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

 

  1. Connect the small end of your USB cable to the charger port on the right side of your device and the large end of the cable to your computer.
  2. The USB storage screen will display.
  3. Tap Turn on USB storage.
  4. Tap OK.
  5. When a Removable Disk window appears on your computer, click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.

  1. Click OK.
  2. On the computer, double-click the memory card folder that contains the file you want to delete.
  3. Right-click the file you want to delete and then click Delete.
  4. Click Yes.
  5. Caution: Do not disconnect the USB cable while the file is being deleted.
  6. When you are finished, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray of your computer.
  7. Click Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device.
  8. On your phone, tap Turn off USB storage.
  9. Disconnect the USB cable from your phone.

 

 

Open or delete files using the device

To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Tap Files.
  3. Navigate to the folder that contains the file you want to delete.
  4. Tap the folder to open it.
  5. Tap the Menu key.
  6. Tap Delete.
  7. Tap to select the check box of each file you want to delete.
  8. Tap Delete.

Transfer files between computer & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:

 

  1. Connect the small end of your USB cable to the charger port on the right side of your device and the large end of the cable to your computer.
  2. The USB storage screen will display.
  3. Tap Turn on USB storage.
  4. Tap OK.
  5. When a Removable Disk window appears on your computer, click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.

  1. Click OK.
  2. On the computer, double-click the memory card folder that contains the file you want to copy.
  3. Drag and drop the file from the folder onto your computer desktop or into another folder or drag and drop the file from your computer into the memory card folder.
  4. Caution: Do not disconnect the USB cable during file transfer.
  5. When you are finished, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray of your computer.
  6. Click Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device.
  7. On your phone, tap Turn off USB storage.
  8. Disconnect the USB cable from your phone.
