Internal memory (RAM)

Manage memory

To manage the internal memory, follow these steps:

 

  1. Restart the device regularly.
  2. Use the task manager to close running programs. (See below)

 

 

Task manager

A task manager can view running apps and close them. To use the task manager, follow these steps:

 

  1. On the Home screen, press and hold the Alt key.
  2. While holding the Alt key, tap the Back Arrow to scroll through open applications.
  3. Highlight the desired application and release the Alt key to bring that application to the front of the screen.
  4. To close the application, press the Menu key and select Close.

 

 

View free memory

To view the amount of free internal memory, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Options.
  2. Scroll to and select Device.
  3. Scroll to and select Device and Status Information.
  4. View the Free Memory.

Internal storage (ROM)

Manage storage

To manage the internal storage space, follow these steps:

 

  1. Check the available internal device memory. It is recommended to keep at least 5 MB of memory free.
  2. Delete the call logs.
  3. Clear deleted text messages (SMS) and picture messages (MMS).
  4. Clear the browser cache, cookies, or history.
  5. Clear search history.
  6. Store data on SD cards.
  7. Remove contacts that are not needed.
  8. Uninstall unneeded applications.

View free storage space

To view the amount of free internal storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Options.
  2. Scroll to and select Device.
  3. Scroll to and select Device and Status Information.
  4. View the Free Memory.

SD card

Format SD card

Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

 

To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, scroll to and select Options.
  2. Scroll to and select Device.
  3. Scroll to and select Storage.
  4. Press the Menu button.
  5. Scroll to and select Format.
  6. Scroll to and select Media Card.
  7. Scroll to and select Yes.

 

 

Insert / remove SD card

To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

 

  1. Slide the back battery cover down and away to remove it.
  2. Insert the memory card into the memory card slot with the gold contacts on the card facing down.

  3. Press the memory card into the memory card slot until it clicks into place.
    • Note: The memory card slot is spring loaded.
  4. Align the battery cover with the guides on the device until it clicks into place.

 

 

Open or delete files using a computer

To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

 

  1. Connect the small end of your USB cable to your device and the large end of the cable to your computer.
  2. At the message, “Do you want to turn on Mass Storage Mode? You might not be able to access some media files in this mode.”, select No.
    • Note: To access files without using BlackBerry Desktop Manager, select Yes to turn on Mass Storage Mode.
  3. On your computer, open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager application.
  4. Click the Media icon.
  5. Under Media Manager, click Launch.
  6. Under My Devices, click BlackBerry 9700 [Your device PIN] [Media Card]
  7. Browse to the file you want to access.

 

 

Open or delete files using the device

To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, scroll to and select All.
  2. Scroll to and select Media.
  3. Press the Menu key.
  4. Scroll to and select Explore.
  5. Select Media Card.
  6. Navigate to the file you want.

 

 

Set default memory storage

By default, the device stores data on the SD card. To set the default memory storage to another location, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Scroll to and select Camera.
  3. Press the Menu key.
  4. Scroll to and select Options.
  5. Scroll to and select the Store Pictures drop-down menu.
  6. Scroll to and select In Device Memory or On Media Card.
  7. Press the Menu key.
  8. Scroll to and select Save.

 

 

Transfer files between computer & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:

 

  1. Connect the small end of your USB cable to your device and the large end of the cable to your computer.
  2. At the message, “Do you want to turn on Mass Storage Mode? You might not be able to access some media files in this mode.”, select No.
    • Note: To access files without using BlackBerry Desktop Manager, select Yes to turn on Mass Storage Mode.
  3. On your computer, open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager application.
  4. Click the Media icon.
  5. Under Media Manager, click Launch.
  6. Under My Devices, click BlackBerry 9700 [Your device PIN] [Media Card]
  7. Browse to the folder where you want to save the file.
  8. In the top part of the window, browse to the file that you want to move.
  9. Click Copy Down.
  10. At the Copy Files window, select one of the following methods to copy the files to your device:
    • Convert for Optimal Playback: To automatically convert the files to the optimal format and size for your device.
    • Copy with no Conversion: To copy the files with the existing format and size.
    • Advanced Conversion Options: To select a destination format and size.
  11. Click OK.

 

 

Transfer files between internal storage & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the internal storage and SD card, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, scroll to and select All.
  2. Scroll to and select Media.
  3. Press the Menu key.
  4. Scroll to and select Explore.
  5. On the File Folders screen, select Media Card or Device..
  6. Navigate to the file you want to copy.
  7. Press the Menu key.
  8. Scroll to and select Copy.
  9. Navigate back to the File Folders screen.
  10. Scroll to and select Device or Media Card.
  11. Navigate to the folder into which you want to copy the file.
  12. Press the Menu key.
  13. Scroll to and select Paste.

 

 

View free SD card space

To view the amount of free SD card storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, scroll and select All.
  2. Scroll to and select Options.
  3. Scroll to and select Device.
  4. Scroll to and select Storage
  5. View Free Space under Media Card Storage.
