Text to speech

Set up & turn on

To set up and use text to speech, follow these steps:

 

Start speaking text

  1. From inside a file that supports text-to-speech (for example, a Word file opened in the Quickoffice application), tap the Speaker icon.
  2. The Speaker icon changes to a Stop (square) icon when the voice begins speaking the text.

Stop speaking text

Tap the Stop (square) icon to stop the voice speaking the text.

 

 

Settings

Text to speech reads messages out loud, allowing you to listen to text or messages instead of reading them. To change text to speech settings, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Language & input.
  4. Tap Text-to-speech settings.
  5. Tap one of the following options:
    • Always use my settings
      • Tap to enable or disable.
    • Speech rate
      • Tap to select the desired speech rate.
    • Language
      • Tap to select the desired language.
