Wi-Fi calling: T-Mobile G2

Learn how to set up and use Wi-Fi calling, the 911 address, and the connection preference on the T-Mobile G2.

 

 

 

 

Set up

Register the 911 address

To use Wi-Fi calling, you must first register your 911 address at my.t-mobile.com. If you do not, you may see a REG09 error. To learn how to register your 911 address, see: 911 addresses: My T-Mobile.

 

 

Set phone to use Wi-Fi or mobile networks

To set the connection preference for the phone to use Wi-Fi calling or mobile networks, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Application Tray button.
  2. Scroll to and tap Wi-Fi Calling.
  3. Tap the Menu key.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Tap Connection preferences.
  6. Tap one of the following options:
  7. Wi-Fi Preferred: All calls go through Wi-Fi when connected to a Wi-Fi network. Calls drop as you leave the Wi-Fi range.
  8. Cellular Preferred: Calls go over the cellular network, and Wi-Fi Calling is a backup if the cellular network is not available.
  9. Wi-Fi Only: Calls can be made when connected to a Wi-Fi network. If there is no Wi-Fi network, then your calls cannot connect.WiFipreferred.png

10. Tap OK.

Turn on Wi-Fi and connect to network

To use Wi-Fi calling, you must first turn on Wi-Fi and connect to a network. To turn on Wi-Fi and connect, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless & networks.
  4. Tap Wi-Fi settings.
  5. Tap Wi-Fi. Your phone scans for available Wi-Fi networks.
  6. Tap the desired network.
  7. Enter the password for the network, if needed.
  8. Tap Connect.
  9. Go back to the Home screen.
  10. Tap the Application Tray icon.
  11. Scroll to and tap Wi-Fi Calling.
  12. View the tutorial.
  13. At the bottom of the screen, tap the On/Off icon to turn on/off Wi-Fi Calling.

Turn on Wi-Fi calling

  1. If this is the first time you are using Wi-Fi calling, start with registering your 911 address and connection preference (above).
  2. Turn on Wi-Fi and connect to a network.
  3. Tap the Application Tray icon.
  4. Scroll to and tap Wi-Fi Calling.
  5. View the tutorial.
  6. At the bottom of the screen, tap the On/Off icon to turn on/off Wi-Fi Calling.
