Backlight

Brightness

To make the screen backlight brighter or darker, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Tap Brightness.
  5. Tap to clear the Automatic brightness check box, if necessary.
  6. Touch and drag the Brightness slider left or right.
  7. Tap OK.

 

 

Timeout

To change the time before the backlight times out, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Tap Screen timeout.
  5. Tap one of the following options:
    • 15 seconds
    • 30 seconds
    • 1 minute
    • 2 minutes
    • 5 minutes
    • 10 minutes
    • 30 minutes

Home screen

Add widget or shortcut

To add a widget or shortcut to the Home screen, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch and hold a vacant spot on any Home screen until the customization screen displays.
  2. Tap Add to home screen.
  3. Tap one of the following options:
    • Apps and widgets
      1. At top of screen, tap the Apps tab or the Widgets tab if needed.
      2. Touch and hold on the desired App or Widget to add to the Home screen.
      3. Continue touching the App or Widget.
      4. Drag your finger and move the App or Widget into place on the home screen.
      5. Release your finger.
      6. If necessary, tap anywhere outside the app or widget to finish adding.
    • Folder
      1. A new empty folder is now added to the home screen.

 

 

Delete widget or shortcut

To delete a widget or shortcut from the Home screen, follow these steps:

 

  1. Touch and hold the desired widget or shortcut until it vibrates.
  2. Drag the widget or shortcut to the Trash Can icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
  3. When the item turns red, lift your finger from the screen.

 

 

Home screen wallpaper

To change the Home screen wallpaper picture, follow these steps:

 

  1. On any Home screen, touch and hold a vacant spot on any Home screen until the customization screen displays.
  2. Under Set wallpaper, tap Home screen.
  3. Tap one of the following options:

Gallery

    1. Locate and tap the desired image.
    2. If desired, touch and hold the blue box to move or resize.
    3. Tap Done.

Live wallpapers

    1. Tap the desired live wallpaper..
    2. Tap Set wallpaper.

Wallpapers

    1. Tap the desired wallpaper.
    2. Tap Set wallpaper.

 

 

Lock screen wallpaper

To change the lock screen wallpaper picture, follow these steps:

 

  1. On any Home screen, touch and hold a vacant spot on any Home screen until the customization screen displays.
  2. Under Set wallpaper for, tap Home screen.
  3. Tap one of the following options:

Gallery

    1. Locate and tap the desired image.
    2. If desired, touch and hold the blue box to move or resize.
    3. Tap Done.

Wallpapers

    1. Tap the desired wallpaper.
    2. Tap Set wallpaper.

Keyboard

Change default keyboard

To change the default keyboard, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Language and input.
  4. Tap Default.
  5. Tap one of the following options:
    • Samsung keypad
    • Swype

 

 

Enter symbols & numbers

To enter symbols and numbers with the keyboard, follow these steps:


Samsung keypad

  1. Tap the 123 key.
  2. Tap 1/3, 2/3, and 3/3 to see additional symbols.
  3. Tap the ABC key to return to letter entry.

 

Swype

  1. Tap the +!==#& key.
  2. Tap the More symbols key to see additional symbols.
  3. Tap the More symbols key again.
  4. Tap the 123 key to view more symbols.
  5. Tap the ABC key to return to letter entry.

 

 

Text entry mode

To change the text entry or predictive text mode, follow these steps:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Language and input.
  4. Tap Default.
  5. Tap one of the following options:
    • Samsung keypad
    • Swype

 

To enable predictive text mode:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Language and input.
    4. Tap the Settings icon next to the Samsung keypad.
    5. Tap to select the XT9 check box to turn on predictive text.

 

To enter text using predictive text mode:

    1. From an open keyboard, enter the desired word.
    2. Above the open keyboard, tap the desired predicted word.

 

To enable traditional mode:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Language and input.
    4. Tap Configure input methods.
    5. Under Samsung keypad, tap Settings.
    6. Tap to clear the XT9 check box to turn off predictive text.

 

To enter text using traditional mode:

    1. Tap to enter each letter of the desired word.
