Turn off developer options
If developer options are turned on, it can cause red border on the screen, errors when connecting to computers, or other problems. To turn off all developer options, follow these steps:

Change language
To change the language of the device and menus, follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, press Menu.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Language & keyboard.
- Tap Select Language.
- choose desired language.
First time use
Prepare the battery and SIM card
Before using the device, you need to insert the battery and SIM card. To prepare the battery and SIM card, see these steps:
Setup wizard
After turning on your device the first time, you may see a setup wizard to help you set up your device. To do this initial setup, follow these steps:
- Create or sign into your Gmail account.
- Make some initial decisions about how you want to use your phone.
Time & date
Auto-update time (NITZ)
To set the device clock to automatically update based on what time zone it is in, follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Date & time.
- Tap to select or deselect Automatic.
Set time & date
To set the time and date of the device clock, follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll to and tap Date & time.
- If necessary, tap Automatic to clear the check box and turn off automatic update.
- Tap Set date.
- Tap + or – to set the current month, day, and year.
- Tap Set.
- Tap Select time zone.
- Tap the desired time zone.
- Tap Set time.
- Tap+ or – to set the hour and minutes.
- Tap AM or PM.
- Tap Set.
- If desired, tap to select Use 24-hour format.
- If desired, tap Select date format.
- Select one of the following options:
- Normal (12/31/2011)
- 12/31/2011
- 31/12/2011
