Text to speech

Set up & turn on

To set up and use text to speech, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu Menukey.png key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Voice input & output.
  4. Tap Text-to-speech settings.
  5. Tap Install voice data.
  6. If necessary, review the Play Store Terms of Service and tap Accept.
  7. Tap Speech Synthesis Data Installer.
  8. Tap FREE to install.
  9. If necessary, tap OK to accept permissions.

 

 

Settings

Text to speech reads messages out loud, allowing you to listen to text or messages instead of reading them. To change text to speech settings, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu Menukey.png key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Voice input & output.
  4. Tap Text-to-speech settings.
  5. Tap to modify the following settings as desired:
    • Default Engine
    • Speech rate
    • Language

Voice commands

Open an app

To open apps using voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. We’re sorry, but this feature is not available on your device.

 

 

Voice dial a contact

To use voice dialing to call a contact, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications applications_icon.png icon.
  2. If necessary, tap the All apps icon located in the lower left corner of the screen.
  3. Scroll to and tap VoiceSearch.
  4. Speak your command. Example: Speak the phrase, “Call John Smith.”
  5. Confirm your selection. If you said a name that has more than one match in Contacts, or if you stored more than one number for the contact, the phone will prompt you to make the appropriate selection.

 

 

Write a text message (SMS) with voice

To write and send a text message (SMS) using voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, tap Messages.
  2. Tap Compose.
  3. Tap on the To field to bring up the keyboard.
  4. Type the name of the contact, or press the Microphone button to say the name.
  5. Tap on the Text entry box.
  6. Tap the Microphone on the keyboard.
  7. Speak the message you would like to send.
  8. Tap Send.
