Text to speech

Set up & turn on

To set up and use text to speech, follow these steps:

 

Download and install Voice data from the Android Marketplace.

 

 

Settings

Text to speech reads messages out loud, allowing you to listen to text or messages instead of reading them. To change text to speech settings, follow these steps:

 

1.    From the Home screen, tap the Menu  key.

2.    Tap Settings.

3.    Tap Voice input & output.

4.    Tap Text-to-speech settings.

5.    Tap Speech rate.

6.    Select one of the following options:

 

  • Slow
  • Normal
  • Fast
  • Very fast

7.    Tap Language.8.    Select one of the following options:

  • English (United States)
  • Spanish (Spain)
  • French (France)
  • Italian (Italy)

9.    If desired, tap the Always use my settings checkbox to override application settings.

10.  If desired, tap Listen to an example to listen to a speech example based on your settings.

Voice commands

Open an app

To open apps using voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. We're sorry, but this feature is not available for this device.

 

Voice dial a contact

To use voice dialing to call a contact, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Launcher button.
  2. Tap Voice Dialer.
  3. Say a command when the Voice Dialer displays the “Listening” prompt.
    Example: Speak, “Call John Smith.”
  4. If you said a name with more than one match in Contacts, or if you stored more than one number for the contact, the phone prompts you to select the number.
  5. Tap OK to confirm your selection.

 

 

Write a text message (SMS) with voice

To write and send a text message (SMS) using voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Launcher  button.
  2. Tap Messaging.
  3. Tap the Menu  key.
  4. Tap Compose.
  5. Tap the To field.
  6. Enter the phone number or contact name.
    Note: Contacts appear as you enter text.
  7. If the contact appears, tap the contact.
  8. Tap the Type to compose field.
  9. Tap the Microphone icon in the keyboard.
  10. Speak your message.
  11. When finished, tap Send.
