Language

Change language

To change the language of the device and menus, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Start screen, swipe left.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap region+language.
  4. Tap display language.

First time use

Prepare the battery and SIM card

Before using the device, you need to insert the battery and SIM card. To prepare the battery and SIM card, see these steps:

 

  • Insert the battery [Link to procedure]
  • Insert the SIM card [Link to procedure]

 

 

Setup wizard

After turning on your device the first time, you may see a setup wizard to help you set up your device. To do this initial setup, follow these steps:

 

  1. Tap get started.
  2. Tap to select a language.
  3. Tap next.
  4. Tap accept to accept the Windows Phone Terms of Use.
  5. Tap one of the following options:
    • Recommended:
      1. Tap your time zone.
      2. Tap next.
      3. If necessary, tap the date and time entries to edit the current date and time and tap next.
      4. Tap one of the following options:
        • Sign in:
          1. Enter your Windows Live ID.
          2. Tap the Enter key on your on-screen keyboard.
          3. Enter your password.
          4. Tap sign in.
          5. Tap done.
        • Create one:
          1. Enter the Windows Live ID you want to use.
          2. Tap next.
          3. Enter the password you want to use.
          4. Tap the Enter key on your on-screen keyboard.
          5. Re-enter the password.
          6. Tap next.
          7. Enter a back-up e-mail address.
          8. Tap next.
          9. Tap done.
        • Not now:
          1. Tap next.
          2. Tap done.
    • Custom:
      1. Tap to select (turn on) or clear (turn off) the Allow cellular data usage on your phone check box.
      2. Tap to select (turn on) or clear (turn off) the Send information to help improve Windows Phones check box.
      3. Tap to select (turn on) or clear (turn off) the Send keyboard touch information to improve typing and more check box.
      4. Tap next.
      5. Tap your time zone.
      6. Tap next.
      7. If necessary, tap the date and time entries to edit the current date and time.
      8. Tap next.
      9. Tap one of the following options:
        • Sign in:
          1. Enter your Windows Live ID.
          2. Tap the Enter key on your on-screen keyboard.
          3. Enter your password.
          4. Tap sign in.
          5. Tap done.
        • Create one:
          1. Enter the Windows Live ID you want to use.
          2. Tap next.
          3. Enter the password you want to use.
          4. Tap the Enter key on your on-screen keyboard.
          5. Re-enter the password.
          6. Tap next.
          7. Enter a back-up e-mail address.
          8. Tap next.
          9. Tap done.
        • Not now:
          1. Tap next.
          2. Tap done.

Time & date

Auto-update time (NITZ)

To set the device clock to automatically update based on what time zone it is in, follow these steps:

 

Note: When you enter a different time zone and turn on your phone, it automatically updates to the new time. This feature is network-dependent and may not be available in all areas.

 

  1. From the Start screen, swipe left.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap date+ time.
  4. Touch and slide the Set automatically slider to On or Off.

 

 

Set time & date

To set the time and date of the device clock, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Start screen, swipe left.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap date& time.
  4. Touch and slide the Set automatically slider to Off.
  5. Tap the Time zone field.
  6. Tap the time zone.
  7. Tap the Time field.
  8. Tap the hours, minutes, and AM/PM boxes and tap the desired settings.
  9. Tap the Done icon.
  10. Tap the Date field.
  11. Tap the month, day, and year boxes and tap the desired settings.
  12. Tap the Done icon.
