    Beginning October 5, the Nexus 7 received a software update to Android 6.0/ Build version MRA58K. This update provides features and improvements:

    Check the software version

    To check the current software version, follow these steps:


    1. From the Home screen, tap All Apps.
    2. Tap System.
    3. Scroll down to 'SYSTEM,' and then tap About tablet.
    4. Read the version on the device, and check it below:

    Your software is up to date. There are no updates available.


    This document will be updated if and when new software is available.








    Your device can update to software version LMY48M:

    • Review the Requirements to update below.
    • Beginning October 5, you may be prompted to update automatically (OTA).
    • To manually update after October 5, see how to download the update below.

    If the update fails, contact customer care.

    Other versions

    Your device has non-T-Mobile software, and it is unsupported. The manufacturer and T-Mobile cannot update your software.



    Requirements to update

    To be able to update to the current software version, the below requirements must be met:

    • 50% or higher battery life
    • Data connection
    • Available memory (File size of update: 352.4 MB)

    Download and install software update

    You can download and install the software update:

    From the device



    Update software from the device

    To check for updates and download the update from the Google servers, follow these steps:


    1. From the Home screen, tap All Apps.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap About device.
    4. Tap Software update.
      • If you are not connected to Wi-Fi, you may receive a prompt to connect.
      • If Wi-Fi is not available, tap OK.
      • If the update is not available, you will receive the message The device is up-to-date. If you receive this message, please wait for your device to receive the update via OTA.
    5. Follow the on-screen prompts.
    6. Wait as your device restarts and updates to Android version 6.0 / Software version MRA58K.
