Text to speech

Set up & turn on

To set up and use text to speech, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Voice input & output.
  4. Tap Text-to-speech settings.
  5. Tap Install voice data.
  6. If necessary, review the Play Store Terms of Service and tap Accept.
  7. Tap SpeechSynthesis Data Installer.
  8. Tap Install.
  9. Tap OK.

 

 

Settings

Text to speech reads messages out loud, allowing you to listen to text or messages instead of reading them. To change text to speech settings, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Voice input & output.
  4. Tap Text-to-speech settings.
  5. Tap to change the following settings:
    1. Default Engine
    2. Speech rate
    3. Language

Voice commands

Open an app

To open apps using voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Voice Search.
  3. When Voice Search flashes the “Speak Now” prompt, say a command.
  4. Tap Go to confirm you selection.

 

 

Voice dial a contact

To use voice dialing to call a contact, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Voice Dialer.
  3. When the Voice Dialer flashes the “Listening” prompt, say a command. Example: Speak the phrase, “Call John Smith.”
  4. Confirm your selection. If you said a name that has more than one match in Contacts, or if you stored more than one number for the contact, the device will prompt you to make the appropriate selection.

 

 

Write a text message (SMS) with voice

To write and send a text message (SMS) using voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Tap Messaging.
  3. Tap Menu.
  4. Tap Compose.
  5. Tap the Mic icon.
  6. Speak the message
