Internal memory (RAM)

Manage memory

To manage the internal memory, follow these steps:

 

  • If the device is slow, remove the widgets from Home screens (especially ones that update with information orhave animation).
  • If you are using live wallpaper and the device is slow, turn off the live wallpaper.
  • Remove all unused Home screens:
    • Pinch the Home screen.
    • On the grid of Home screens, drag unused screens to the trash.

 

 

Task manager

A task manager can view running apps and close them. To use the task manager, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications image006.jpg icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Task Manager.

 

 

View free memory

To view the amount of free internal memory, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu image008.jpg key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Storage.
  4. View Available for the SD card, Phone storage, and the Internal storage.

Manage storage

To manage the internal storage space, follow these steps:

 

  • Set the text message limit to delete messages automatically.
    Note: The default is 200 text and 20 picture messages. You may use this setting to start with, and decrease it if you continue to have problems.
  • Change the setting for email synchronization to download only for the past three days.

 

 

View free storage space

To view the amount of free internal storage, follow these steps:

 

  • From any Home screen, tap the Menu image008.jpg key.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll to and tap Storage.
  • View Internal storage.

SD card

Format SD card

Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

 

To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. Back up data on the storage or SD card, if desired.
  2. Plug the device into a computer with a USB cable.
  3. From the Notification bar, verify that Disk Drive or Mass Storage mode are selected.

  4. On the computer Start menu, navigate to Computer or My Computer.
  5. Find the Removable disk located under devices with removable storage.

  6. Right-click the removable disk.
  7. Click Format.

  8. Verify the file system is set at FAT32 and Quick Format is selected.

  9. Click Start.
  10. Wait a few minutes for the computer to format the SD card.
    Note: If errors appear during this process, the SD card is likely defective.

 

 

Insert / remove SD card

To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

 

  1. Turn the phone off.
  2. Press the battery cover release on the bottom of your phone and then lift the back cover up and toward the top of the phone to remove it.

  3. Gently press the memory card into the slot, as shown, until it clicks.

  4. Set the top of the phone into the top of the back cover and then gently press the cover closed.
  5. Turn the phone on.
  6. From any Home screen, tap the Menu image008.jpg key.
  7. Tap Settings.
  8. Tap SD & phone storage.
  9. Tap Mount SD card.

 

 

Open or delete files using a computer

To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

 

On a Windows computer

  1. Plug the small end of the USB cable into the USB/charging port on your phone.
  2. Plug the large end of the USB cable into the USB port of your computer.
  3. On your phone, a Choose a connection type message appears.
  4. Tap Disk drive.
  5. Tap Done.
    • Note: Some applications in use may be stopped or may not be available until you disconnect USB storage.
  6. On your computer, click Startand then click My Computer to view your computer’s folders and files.
  7. Under Devices with Removable Storage, double-click Removable Disk to access the folders and files on your phone’s memory card.
  8. Right-click the file you want to delete.
  9. Select Delete.
  10. Select Yes.
  11. When you are finished, click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray in the lower right-hand corner of your computer desktop.
  12. Click Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device - Drives.
  13. Disconnect the USB cord from your computer and then from your phone.

 

On a Macintosh computer

For Macintosh computers running Mac OS X 10.5 or later, you need Android File Transfer to access and transfer files between your Mac and an Androiddevice running Android 3.0 or later. To download Android File Transfer, browse to www.android.com/filetransfer on your Macintosh computer. Click Download Now. When the download completes, double-click the Android File Transfer virtual disk on the Mac desktop. In the installer window, drag the Android File Transfer character to the Applications folder icon.

  1. Plug the small end of the USB cable into the USB/charging port on your phone.
  2. Plug the large end of the USB cable into the USB port of your computer.
  3. On your phone, a Choose a connection type message appears.
  4. Tap Disk drive.
  5. Tap Done.
    • Note: Some applications in use may be stopped or may not be available until you disconnect USB storage.
  6. On your computer, double-click Android File Transfer to open it the first time (subsequently it opens automatically).
  7. If prompted, click Open.
  8. On the desktop, double-click the virtual drive icon labeled No Name (unless you previously changed its name) to access the folders and files on your phone’s memory card.

  9. Double-click the memory card’s virtual drive icon to access the memory card’s folders and files.
  10. Drag and drop the file you want to delete into the Trash.
  11. When you are finished, drag and drop the virtual drive icons into the Trash/Eject.
  12. Disconnect the USB cord from your computer and then from your phone.

 

 

Open or delete files using the device

To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

 

Music files

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications image006.jpg icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Music.
  3. Tap the Categories.
  4. Tap Songs.
  5. Touch and touch and hold the desired song file.
  6. Tap Delete.
  7. Tap OK.

 

Photo and video files

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applicationsimage006.jpg icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Gallery.
  3. Tap one of the following options:
    • Camera shots
    • All photos
    • All videos
    • Perfect Pics
    • Other
  4. Scroll to and touch and hold the desired file.
  5. Tap Delete.
  6. Tap OK.

 

OR (Delete multiple files at one)

 

  1. Navigate to the folder with the file(s) you want to delete in the Gallery.
  2. Tap More.
  3. Tap Delete.
  4. Tap each file you want to delete. The file will be marked with a red X.
  5. Tap Delete.

 

 

Set default memory storage

By default, the device stores data on the [SD card or internal storage]. To set the default memory storage to another location, follow these steps:

Transfer files between computer & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:


On a Windows computer

  1. Plug the small end of the USB cable into the USB charging port on your phone.
  2. Plug the large end of the USB cable into the USB port of your computer.
