Text to speech

Set up & turn on

To set up and use text to speech, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Menu key.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Voice input & output.
  4. Touch Text-to-speech settings.
  5. Touch Install voice data.
    • Note: If Install voice data is grey, you already have this data installed on your device.
  6. If necessary, log  into your Google account.
  7. If necessary, review the Play Store Terms of Service and touch Accept.
  8. Touch Speech Synthesis Data Installer.
  9. Touch Free.
  10. Touch OK to accept permissions.

 

 

Settings

Text to speech reads messages out loud, allowing you to listen to text or messages instead of reading them. To change text to speech settings, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen,  touch Applications.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Voice input & output.
  4. Touch Text-to-speech settings.
  5. Modify settings as desired.

Voice commands

Open an app

To open apps using voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. Touch and hold the Genius Button.
  2. Speak Open + (Name of application).

 

 

Voice dial a contact

To use voice dialing to call a contact, follow these steps:

 

  1. Touch and hold the Genius Button.
    • Note: If you speak ‘Call’ then it is unnecessary to touch Call.
  2. Speak Call + [Name of contact].

 

 

Write a text message (SMS) with voice

To write and send a text message (SMS) using voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. Touch and hold the Genius Button.
    • Note: If you speak ‘Text’ then it is unnecessary to touch Send text.
  2. Speak Text + [Name of contact].
