Backlight

Brightness

To make the screen backlight brighter or darker, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options icon.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Tap Screen Display.
  5. Scroll to Backlight, tap Backlight Brightness, and select a brightness level.

 

 

Timeout

To change the time before the backlight times out, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options icon.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Tap Screen Display.
  5. Scroll to Backlight, tap Backlight Timeout, and select a timeout duration.

Home screen

Add application, shortcut, or folder

You can add shortcuts to give yourself quick access to items such as frequently used web sites, contacts, or applications.

 

To add an application, shortcut, or folder to the Homescreen, follow these steps:

 

  1. Browse to a Web site, or touch and hold the item you want to create a shortcut for.
  2. Tap Mark as Favorite to add the item to the Favorites panel on the Home screen.
  3. If available, tap Add to Home Screen to add the item to the All panel on the Home screen.

 

 

Move application, shortcut, or folder

To move an application, shortcut, or folder from the Homescreen, follow these steps:

 

  1. On the Home screen or in an application folder, touch and hold an application or folder icon.
  2. To move the application or folder icon to a different location on the Home screen, tap Move. Use the Trackpad to scroll to the new location. Press the Trackpad.
  3. To move the application or folder icon into a folder, tap Move to Folder. Scroll to and select a folder.
  4. To move the application or folder icon out of a folder, tap Move to Folder. Scroll to and select Homeor a different folder.

 

 

Delete application, shortcut, or folder

To remove an application, shortcut, or folder from the Homescreen, follow these steps:

 

  1. On the Home screen or in an application folder, touch and hold an application or folder icon.
  2. To delete an empty folder, tap Delete.Tap Delete again.
  3. To delete an application, tap Delete.If prompted, read the warning about deletion and tap Delete again.
  4. To hide an application or folder icon, tap Hide Icon. Tap Hide in all panels or Hide in this panel only. (To unhide a hidden application or folder icon, press the Menu key and select Show All Icons.)

 

 

Change number of visible rows of application icons

To change the number of visible rows of application icons, follow these steps:

 

  1. On the Home screen, tap and hold your finger on the application heading.
    • For example: All, Favorites, Frequent
  2. Drag your finger up or down to change the number of visible rows.
    • You can choose between one and three visible rows.

 

 

Home screen wallpaper

To change the Home screen wallpaper picture, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options icon.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Tap Home Screen Preferences.
  5. Tap Change Wallpaper.
  6. Navigate to and select the image you want to set as your wallpaper.
  7. Press the Menu key.
  8. Tap Set As Wallpaper.

 

 

Lock screen wallpaper

The lock screen wallpaper will be the same as the home screen wallpaper.

Keyboard

Copy, cut, and paste

To cut, copy, or paste text in a text field or message, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any message or text entry field, press and hold the Shift key.
  2. Scroll the Trackpad to highlight the text you want.
  3. Press the Menu key.
  4. Select Copy or Cut.
  5. Scroll the Trackpad to where you want to paste the text.
  6. Press the Menu key.
  7. Select Paste.

 

 

Enter symbols & numbers

To enter symbols and numbers with the keyboard, follow these steps:

 

Insert a plus sign

  1. To add a plus sign to a phone number, press the letter O key.
  2. To add a plus sign to a text field, press the alt key and the letter O key.


Insert an at symbol (@)

  1. To add an at symbol (@) to an e-mail address, press the space key.
  2. To add an at symbol (@) to a text field, press the alt key and the P key.


Insert a period (.)

  1. To add a period (.) to an e-mail address, press the space key.
  2. To add a period (.) to a text field, press the alt key and the M key.


Insert a hyphen

  1. Press the alt key and the I key.

OR

  1. Press the sym key.
  2. Press the sym key again.
  3. Scroll to the Hyphen key.
  4. Press the Trackpad.


Insert an accented or special character

  1. Press and hold the letter key (for example, N).
  2. Scroll until the character you want appears (for example, ñ).
  3. Release the letter key.

 

 

Text entry mode

To change the text entry or predictive text mode, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options icon.
  3. Tap Typing and Language.
  4. Tap Typing.
  5. Tap Styleand select from the following options:
    • Direct
      1. No suggestions are made as you type.
    • Predictive
      1. Suggested words are displayed as you type.
      2. If desired, tap Advanced Style Optionsand select or deselect the following options:
        1. Spelling—suggests alternate spellings
        2. Compound Words—suggests longer words first
        3. Typing—adds new words to your dictionary
        4. Names—learns the names of your contacts
        5. Email—learns from received e-mail messages
      3. Press the Menu key.
      4. Select Save.
  6. If necessary, press the Menu key again.
  7. Select Save.
